FreeVimager is am image viewer and editor. It can as well play avi video files and some type of audio files.

•View & Edit graphics file of type: jpeg, bmp, gif, tiff (multi-page), png, pcx and emf
•Save As Pdf command
•Jpeg lossless rotate and crop
•Works with all Windows versions from 95 up to Windows 7
•Multi-monitor support: switch form one monitor to another through context menu or TAB key
•The executable only version stores the settings to a INI file
•Preview Display with transparency (useful when working with two or more monitors)
•Unicode support: Open, Edit, Batch Process or Batch Rename your files named in russian, indian, chinese, japanese...
•EXIF is displayed and all data are kept when editing and saving images
•EXIF date / time adjustment in batch mode
•IPTC & XMP single file / batch editing support for jpeg and tiff files
•Batch Processing and CD / DVD Slideshow creation
•Print Preview with image positioning by dragging

Settings: .ini file in application folder. Creates empty folder in Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Contaware. This is now fixed in V2.35. Can someone help testing on other versions than XP?

FreeVimager is @ V2.07. Changes since last post:

2.0.7:
· In this release there are bug fixes and translation fixes
· Added touch screen gestures support for zoom in/out and for next/previous picture
· Fixed batch processing when input and output files have overlapping names in same directory (-> reorder in same directory now works as expected!)
2.0.5:
· In this release there are translation fixes, download it from here
· YUV video rendering support check
· New internal avi audio/video codecs (lossless, mjpeg, theora, vorbis and ADPCM)

FreeVimager V2.3.5:
•In this stable release there are minor improvements
•Standalone version is now clean: it will not create a directory in the user's application data folder
•View image location in Google Map

- Fixed playing problems for audio files with really long path
- Fixed Loading... keeps occasionally showing in file open dialog
- Fixed animated gif preview problems in file open dialog for

- Fixed W/H ratio info display for the crop tool with cm units
- Optimized first picture soft load
- Main window and File Info dialogs are restored to the
primary monitor if the last position is on a invalid monitor
(for example after the removal of a video projector)

FreeVimager is at V.3.7.0 (8th of November 2011):
- Rename command (F2 key)
- String and other fixes
- Dropped memory mapped BMP support
(today's PC have enough RAM)

I liked some of the things I read above so I went back and tested this. Some usage notes:

* Will open whole directories recursively (only images) to let you open the first image it finds and then advanced through all others. This combined with the slideshow or random slideshow can show a variety of selected images. RecursiView will do that in a thumbnail format, but it's not quite the same thing. This is maybe my favorite part of the program
* Does a very basic unzip, music player, screenshot mechanism ... added that to the entry and categories
* Scan function works fine, although it (on my system) just pulled up the existing HP tool to scan it in so not a big gain over my current setup

Wishlist -

* Ability to paste in directories, not just navigate to them
* Prefer a black background for images. This program tries to guess the background color (often incorrectly), which creates a flickering effect when cycling through images
