Update: This project is being taken offline based on license issues.

More info: http://kitchensinksoftware.blogspot.com/2009/07/kitchen-sink-currently-offline.html

Downloads have been taken offline until I can get that ironed out.

---

Update: Major bugfix was necessary. Version 1.1.1 is here:

https://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dmg8ntv_85fx4b8dgr&hl=en

The latest one is out thanks to encouragement and assistance from many PFCers. Please take a look and see what you think. Feedback, thoughts, and criticism are all very welcome.

CHANGELOG

* CAFE program updated -- will now open 658 file formats just by double-clicking
* Switched default CAFE graphics viewer settings over to FastStone Image Viewer
* Approximately 50 program updates
* Enabled autosave settings for many included programs
* Added Xenu Link Checker, TestDisk, Photorec, Foobar2000, Starter, PeaZip, SearchMyFiles, KiTTY, Core Temp, Artweaver, Everything, Universal Extractor, Xinorbis,
* Removed Q-Jot, checkdsk, PuTTY, ArtRage, old File Recovery tool, EasyCleaner
* Modified settings in Q10 to be cleaner and more minimalistic
* Moved entire archive under a /data/ subfolder so that the root directory wasn't so cluttered.
* Refreshed plugins for Universal Viewer and irfanView
* More security plugins for Firefox - Secure version
* Lots of organization, modifications to the menu system
* FIX - autorun.inf file to work correctly.
* FIX - nexusfont - I deleted one too many language files in the last version and broke it
* FIX - updated firefox so that it started with the base EXE file -- the main EXE underneath all the subfolders would just launch the default browser.

Known problems

* An older version of Winamp is included because the program would not decompress using universal extractor. It remains because this is the only audio program that works with HotKeyz. If this remains a problem in the next release, Winamp will be removed. This was sort of touched on in this article: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=942&highlight=winamp

Version 1.1 is out and the torrent has already gotten 535 downloads in just 12 hours. Unlike previous posts, Torrent speeds for this one should be lightning fast.

Major changes

  • User interface cleanup (better icons, more intelligent folders)
  • Fixed a number of problems in the 1.0 version with missing, out-of-date, and broken files.
  • Updated, added, and removed ~40 programs.
  • Dramatic CAFE update: A configuration to allow opening over 700 file types, enable only the "power" editors (OpenOffice and GIMP), or open any compressed file (including EXE / MSI files).
  • Shortcuts/Hotkeys added

Got a LOT of help from users Guiness and Vishnu on this release. Big thanks to them.

Download (445 megs, 1.22 gigs uncompressed):

I will be testing! By the way are you still using the batch file to start PStart.exe? perhaps AutoIT would be a better solution in the long term, maybe I could help with creating a script. Also I have completed the program to automatically download the IPToCountry.csv for CurrPorts, was wondering if you want me to send it to you for testing?

It can download any file if you wish, for example it can be set up to download the USB.ids used in USBDeview or OUI.txt used to convert MAC Addresses to company names. It has either GUI interface thats saves the config to an INI file or can be run from command line:

Code:
Program.exe http://thewebsite.com/test.zip test.zip test.txt

[Program Name] [Web Site] [Compressed File] [Single File after Compression]

Coded in AutoIT3 (December 2008)

Almost anything other than a batch file would be ideal. I'm having quite a few problems getting a batch file into an executable. If you know of a way to do that with AutoIT, I'd be VERY interested.

I added the IPtoCountry.csv at your suggestion so to further improve it by including an autoupdate sequence for that file would be stellar. Thank you so much. Please do send to foldinghomxe axt gmaixl doxt coxm (delete the x's).

AutoIt can script most things that a batch file can. Perhaps it would be worth posting the batch file (It will take 16 minutes to download all 445 MB for me - you might read this sooner) - I could probably help you.

Will do, I will send you the script and the executable to look at tonight about 10PM GMT. I will also include a conversion of the batch file used to open Kitchen Sink with an AutoIT version, just to compare.

> What is a portable sink?

The name means quite a bit and the answer explains clearly the idea behind this project:

If you're not American or English isn't your first language, I realize that doesn't really translate. Its short for the euphemism "everything but the kitchen sink," which is to say as much as possible. The idea is that if you take everything with you, you're prepared for anything. This is sort of like the phrase "when pigs fly": an example in Spanish that means basically the same thing would be "cuando la rana crece el pelo" which means "when frogs have hair"; it doesn't make any sense to people not familiar with the saying but is equivalent.

The idea for Kitchen Sink is that I put as much in this archive as possible. Other portable collections only put in open source software (PortableApps.com), only very small tools (Tiny USB Office), or only tools that will tie into their internal system (Lupo). I put in EVERYTHING I can but avoid:

- Duplicate programs
- Anything buggy or overly obscure
- Games
