Cool! personally I only use JauntePE if it's a necessity.

Also if you add urlfilter.ini to the 'profile' folder it will block malicious ad servers. I also found this http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/index.dm ... filter.ini which shows alternative lists, good replacement for the 'portable HOSTS file' idea.

If you want to merge say 2 ad block services together take out the headings so you are left with just the Ad Servers and use shmoosh2 - I haven't added to the database because it's commandline (I might create a little GUI! or if someone knows CPP then they can use the SourceCode included.)

Usage: shmoosh.exe URLFILTER1.ini URLFILTER2.ini URLFILTERFINAL.ini

Also was browsing through the operaprefs.ini documention again and I never realised how many settings there are that aren't configured through the UI. I am so glad Opera hasn't started to use .JS or .SQLITE to store their settings, but good 'ol understandable INI files.

I know I keep banging on about how amazing Opera is but truly its alot more portable than FirefoxPortable.

If you want to save any file to your Opera directory, it will accept a relative path (kind of!) than an absolute e.g. C:\Downloads. So you have the directory <Opera> where Opera.exe & Opera.dll are situated etc. If you wish the <download> folder to be situated in this directory then use the variable {Resources} which is the location to the application directory of Opera.

Example Directory.

Edit the section in operaprefs.ini and/or operaprefs_default.ini.

Difference between operaprefs_default.ini and operaprefs.ini is if you delete your profile by mistake when it recreates a new profile it will use the values that are in the operaprefs_default.ini first and then operaprefs.ini second. This is ideal, because you can create a list of default variables without having to setup your UserProfile every time you delete your profile folder.

Variables:
{LargePrefs} = User Profile Directory
{Resources} = Opera Directory

Cool! It's not in the documentation I was looking at the INI file and noticed this hack.

I don't know how to set a relative download path in FirefoxPortable? Maybe I am being stupid.

I am having a couple of issues with plugins, but I am sure I will sort this out ZShare.net plays on the installed but not portable?!

I know most people here probably roll with a 3rd party firewall, I'm using just the Vista firewall (tweaked a bit) and out of the 4 portable browsers I have, this (Opera 10.5) is the only one to bring up the Vista firewall alert.

I don't see this alert much, as of now only HFS (HTTP File Server), TeamViewer and MirandaIM have brought it up and been unblocked.

CurrPorts shows 2 opera.exe's (after 5 min idle) using the UDP Protocol Local Ports 1900 and 55081 and Shields Up! shows both are stealth.

I take it this is the reason for the firewall alert and probably has something to do with Opera Unite.
Don't know if I want my browser waiting/listening for UPnP broadcast messages and possible connections.
Is it just me, am I paranoid, is there a way to stop this. Can anybody shed some light on this matter.

You are not paranoid and you are right. Opera 10.50 is listening on Port:1900 [UDP] and some random [UDP] ports. There is no way to stop Opera accessing those ports.
You could stop Opera 10.10 but you can't stop Opera 10.50 from doing so.
The link provided by freakazoid doesn't apply for Opera 10.50 anymore.

As far as I know Shields Up! only scans for the TCP protocol. They don't provide UDP scans.

Only thing that baffles me is that you got the alert from your Vista firewall.
Opera developers' goal is to avoid such alerts caused by Windows firewall.

There are also several topics in the Opera forums about this issue but nobody offered a reasonable explanation for this weird behaviour with Unite disabled and neither a way to stop it.

The IP was 239.255.255.250 and that is obviously not a valid internet IP adress. It has something to do with UPnP and SSDP.

I wish they had left in the systray icon.

If you configure the in-built mail client and add a new address it shows the icon in the taskbar! Can't find a setting to manually override this though.
