Copy command progress report option
Quiz of the day :
Everyone and their brother knows about Win humble built-in file copy command, don't you ?
Course you do...
However,...unbeknownst (is that even a word ?) to the great unwashed masses (yours truly included, until very recently),
there is indeed a nifty, yet deplorably undocumented option to cajole said copy into displaying a progress count
as it goes merrily about its shifting business.
(kind of soothing to watch while waiting for a 995 MB file copy to complete on a slow machine, believe you me)
Anyone cares to venture the solution

Re: CLI Copy command progress report option
Windows 10 ... Shock Horror ...Vade Retro, Satanas ...
(Sorry, @Midas, couldn't help it... )
Was thinking, more modestly, of a trusted CLI command switch under good ole Win XP
or even under Win 7, (to which I eventually graduated, a while ago, rest assured)
Anyway, here is my riddle' solution:
Despite /Z switch officially stated function "Copies networked files in restartable mode" ,
a nifty, undocumented side effect obligingly produces a running progress percentage count as well.
QED

It always pays to check SS64 https://ss64.com/nt/copy.html where it is visible for all to see

Re: Copy command progress report option
Thanks for the tip, @lintalist !
Much more comprehensive output indeed from https://ss64.com/nt/copy.html
...compared to the overly terse and cryptic pronouncement returned by Win Copy /? (or Help Copy, for that matter)

Code: Select all
/Z When this option is used, if the copy is interrupted part way through it will restart if possible
and resume copying the remainder of the file on the next copy if /Z is used again.
Also displays a '% complete' which counts up to 100%.

Oremus, Tu Quoque, brother @Midas
Quite a journey it was, from a pedestrian grasp of pitiful Win Copy /? Help, to the encyclopaedic knowledge
bestowed upon us, mere mortals, by the grace of brother @lintalist's https://ss64.com/nt/copy.html revelation,
for which we should be everlastingly indebted.

Good Lord !
The Pontiff has swapped Roman Catholic genuflections rituals for Shamanistic levitation, of late ?
Mark my words, this is the end of the Papacy as we know it..

Is there an Exorcist in the House ?
Looks like a case of serious infestation; perhaps braided garlic and a spike (well-worn) might help as well ?

Re: Copy command progress report option
All concerned citizens should look for a capable and skillful exorcist.
And an old friend of mine mentioned a relatively recent case (and solution) :

Alternative solution :
... As for the rest of us, Brothers and Sisters .... it may be the time for a deep introspection ...
