YunoHost (self-hosting OS)

#1 Post by Midas »

I'll just let YunoHost's site do the talking here... ;)
Self-hosting is the activity of having and administrating your own server, typically at home, to host your personal data and services yourself instead of relying exclusively on third-parties. For instance, you can self-host your blog, such that it 'lives' on a machine that you have control of, instead of having it on somebody else's computer (AKA "The Cloud") in exchange for money, advertisement or private data.
YunoHost is an operating system aiming for the simplest administration of a server, and therefore democratize self-hosting, while making sure it stays reliable, secure, ethical and lightweight. It is a copylefted libre software project maintained exclusively by volunteers. Technically, it can be seen as a distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux and can be installed on many kinds of hardware.
[You can] Select the hardware on which you want install YunoHost :
VirtualBox, Raspberry Pi, ARM board, Regular computer, WSL, Remote server

Plus, a visual explainer of the product's name...
