I haven't tested Cliqz (https://cliqz.com/) as it doesn't allow extensions (see FAQ), but I'm sure someone else will find a use for it...

Be aware that no direct download is provided, only an online installer, so portability is off from the get-go.

Surprisingly, Cliqz also exists as a Firefox add-on (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cliqz/) making the following info relevant for XP users...

Topic update: Cliqz is still being actively developed with v1.27.0 as the latest release.
(Full changelog index at https://cliqz.com/en/magazine?id=index-193729&ucat=47)

Apparently developed in Germany, the homepage puts strong emphasis on ad-blocking and anti-tracking, with a promise of "Zero personal data stored on Cliqz servers".

I didn't mention in OP the fact that Cliqz is multi-platform, being available for Windows and MacOS, as well as for mobiles with iOS and Android.

Old thread update: Cliqz is no longer in development: https://cliqz.com/en/magazine/farewell-from-cliqz ... looks like they were hoping for public funding that got punted.
