Windows 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users.
Windows Update Blocker is a Portable freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system , with just a click of the button

This is just disabling a service? Or is this a HOSTS file edit to block servers?

Again, is this disabling a service or is this a HOSTS file edit? It's important as HOSTS file editors don't work with my VPN.

i have set it to just view available updates but let me decide to install but sometimes i see that EXE running in process explorer that installs win updates. Is M$ overriding in Win7 to install junk they want installed?

... I just don't get it ... Why use an app to block (completely or selectively) Windows 10 updates, when this can be achieved simply with registry tweaks?
There are many websites explaining how to do that: you see exactly the changes you are making to the registry and you don't have to worry if the app contains malware.

Not all users know how or want to do these modifications themselves. Break something, do it incompletely, keep up with changing methods, etc.
It's not that I like that, just the words "registry tweaks" scare many people.
To them, a big button with a giant check mark is much more friendly-looking. Malware risk is worth it!
