Forum search permissions

Up to now, forum searches were granted to any visitor, be they logged in or not.

As of today, searches appear to be have been restricted exclusively to logged in visitors .

Temporary glitch or permanent policy change ?

Was just about to post a similar thread. Used the active topics link regularly to check the latest posts.

Yes, and if I'm not logged in, I can't use the "View active topics" option. :(

Restricted Searching

Just recently, I notice if I try to search the forum and I'm not logged in I get the following message...

This is the first that I am encountering this. Why are you doing this? Why are you preventing anyone who isn't a member or logged in, from searching the forum? Are you, perhaps, trying to force people to sign in or join? Way before I joined TPFC, I found it was nice touch that you allowed me to search the forum and read the discussions about this or that program. Taking this away from non-members or forcing members to sign in just to do a search is most definitely not a nice thing and it isn't going to win you any awards. IMHO, this is a backward step.

It's definitely a bug or a temporary setting and it has already been reported: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 18&t=22095

Sysadmin,
could you kindly merge the two topics, and perhaps care to shed some light on this vexing subject, pretty please ?

Sorry. My fault for not searching before I post.

Anyway, do you really believe a bug would be intelligent enough to produce a nicely worded message like "Sorry but you are not permitted to use the search system"? Think again.

It's just an automatic forum message, it doesn't need to be intelligent.
I'm confident it's just a temporary permission issue.

Could it be an unforeseen result of fixing this: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... hp?t=22088? :?

@Midas:

Doubt it; the fix in question was effectively applied on 08-MAY-2015;
the search permission disturbance started to rear its pesky head only since 10-MAY-2015... :?

I'd rather tend to suspect some kind of (temporary) experiment ?

Do you really think so? Take into consideration this is the 4th day this has been happening and this is the 4th day that this issue has been raised in the forum and no one in authority has popped in to say something. Me, I am the suspicious type. Can you blame me?

Me think you are the clueless type. Just wait patiently or PM webfork / Andrew Lee.

@Joe: I think Andrew is on vacation. He'll be back and fix this, no worries.

Or he is not permitted to login too :)
