Imagine - image viewer

Imagine is another TPFC great entry (see
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1819) without a proper forum topic, so here is -- for lack of site description, here's an excerpt from Softpedia:
Elena Opris @Softpedia wrote:Imagine is an application which allows you to view pictures and animations in various formats, including JPG, BMP, PNG and GIF. The interface of the program comes with simplistic elements. It's easy to navigate through it, thanks to the Explorer-based layout. So, you can view file properties and EXIF information, copy, move, delete and rename pictures. [...]
Imagine uses a very low amount of CPU and memory, includes a brief help file (which is a little disappointing, considering the software's complex features) and ran smoothly during our tests. We didn't have to deal with any issues and strongly recommend
Imagine to all users.
Imagine current release (v1.10 available in 32 and 64 bit versions) can be downloaded at
http://www.nyam.pe.kr/dev/imagine/.
Sofpedia entry is at

Very handy image viewer indeed. Thanks to
Midas for inclusion in the DB.
Imagine's Metadata display capability, available from the Main menu and also from Win Explorer files Context menu, is specially appealing.
In the Status bar under the main "Details" List view, a cute "Camera" icon will (optionally) signal every image containing Exif/IPTC info
with a relevant Metadata flag:
OR
OR
Further, the Metadata information is also available from
Context menu, after (optional) Shell Extension activation.
Actually, I just retired long-standing
XnView Shell Extension in favour of Imagine's counterpart.
Imagine's right-click context menu works like a charm, neatly displaying "Metadata information" split into distinct
Exif and
IPTC panes,
better IMO than XnView rather clumsy all-in-one-display format.
However, if you need to
Edit existing Metadata within the Context menu, stick with XnView (or keep both Shell Extensions alive...)

Thanks for the heads up,
__philippe.
For metadata editing, I use the specialized and free
Exif Pilot (non-portable:
http://www.colorpilot.com/exif.html), made portable by
yaP (for details, check
http://rolandtoth.hu/yaP/#examples)...

Just updated the yaP site so now it is possible to link configs directly in a lightbox:

Looks like
http://www.nyam.pe.kr, the
"imagine" picture viewer repository and development discussion board, which has been idling for quite a while, sadly appears to be down for good now.
The domain name registration has expired on 24-02-2014
Code: Select all
whois nyam.pe.kr
Connecting to KR.whois-servers.net...
Server KR.whois-servers.net returned the following for NYAM.PE.KR
# ENGLISH
Domain Name : nyam.pe.kr
Registrant : Sejin Chun
Administrative Contact(AC) : SejinChun
AC E-Mail : ivory798@hotmail.com
Registered Date : 2004. 02. 24.
Last Updated Date : 2004. 02. 25.
Expiration Date : 2014. 02. 24.
Publishes : N
Authorized Agency : Dotname Korea Corp.(http://www.dotname.co.kr)
At best, it may just be a domain registration renewal lapse.
At worst, something more ominous may be going on.
Further worrying sign:
When visiting
imagine site a week ago, developer Chun Sejin (aka Nyam) last reported log on to his own forum was time-stamped Thursday October 31st, 2013.
Moreover, current e-mails addressed to
nyam@nyam.pe.kr remain unanswered.
Just hoping the developer is alright after all.

I wouldn't quite say that. It's sad to see but it's also entirely possible Nyam just got overloaded or moved on to other things. But yes, it is a bummer.
Updated entry with your Softpedia download.

@webfork
You might very well be right...,
...the more so, since the domain name registration has just been renewed, and
http://nyam.pe.kr is up again ...
Code: Select all
Domain Name : nyam.pe.kr
Registrant : Sejin Chun
Administrative Contact(AC) : SejinChun
AC E-Mail : ivory798@hotmail.com
Registered Date : 2004. 02. 24.

Expiration Date : 2017. 02. 24.

The optimistic conjecture was the right one, after all:
At best, it may just be a domain registration renewal lapse.
Time to change the pointers again ?

I always like pointing to the real author website but I spend a LOT of time fixing home pages on this site for broken links. I have a list of them that Midas helped me put together that I'm slowly making my way through. As such, my preference is just to leave it but it's your call if you wanna edit the entry.

@webfork :
Right, changed
imagine main entry pointer back to the official site
http://www.nyam.pe.kr,
but left download URL pointing to the more dependable Softpedia archive...
@Midas :
Looks like the recent domain name registration hiccup messed with the illustration pointers in your first post above...

@
__philippe: Hi. Did you mean in the first post? I'm seeing pictures alright...
They're not hosted in
Imagine's site, they're at Minus.com -- but Minus does get flakey sometimes...
BTW, great work keeping those pesky URLs in check.

@Midas
Please dismiss my above superfluous comment about a transient aberration.
For a brief while today, each one of the three pictures in post #1 was replaced by a "broken link" icon;
as you mention, must have been the Minus pix hosting site acting up; all is back to normal now...

A nicely balanced approach. You have the makings of a good admin
