Dillo - Version:
Portable Dillo 3.0p6
Not Portable: Writes settings to User folder and AppData
Was looking for a super simple, lightweight HTML viewer.
Dillo was GPL, at the 3.0 mark and Softpedia was listing a
portable version. Unfortunately, in addition to the non-portable element:
* No drag and drop
* Won't view files offline (html or otherwise)
Will use
HTMLDocEdit instead.

Apparently there has been some development since the last test of this software, it has even changed its name etc.
This may merit testing for portability again. Details ...

I am trying to find a worthwhile non portable app to Wrap with Cameyo.com's Virtual app builder.

On WinXP it leaves behind "fltk.org" directories in APPDATA and ALL USERS APPDATA, with "fltk.prefs" files in them.
The problem is that websites look very bad in it, literally broken. For Hungarian sites the encoding is also wrong and I couldn't set it manually.
So it's well below IE6 in quality, I wonder who would use it.

Project is back it seems - 2024: an attempt to resurrect the project began by Rodrigo Arias Mallo.

This release contains a lot of changes accumulated from the 2015-2017 period, as well as fixes and small features introduced in 2024. Here is a summary:
- Add support for floating HTML elements, which involved a big redesign.
- Add support for OpenSSL, LibreSSL and mbed TLS for HTTPS, which is now enabled by default.
- Add a CI pipeline to build Dillo on Ubuntu, MacOS, FreeBSD and Windows (via cygwin).
- Add automatic HTML rendering tests.
- Improve and extend the Dillo manual.
(probably no JS ever, basic browsing only)

That Github update explains a lot of the reasons why the project stalled...
Since the last release 3.0.5 from 2015 a lot of things have happened to the
Dillo project. Here is a short timeline to put things into perspective:
- On 2016, the main developer of the layout engine, Sebastian Geerken, passed away.
- On 2017, the development stopped.
- On 2019, the last email from Jorge Arellano Cid, the lead developer of Dillo, was recorded by the mailing list.
- On 2022, the domain dillo.org was lost.
- On 2024, an attempt to resurrect the project began by Rodrigo Arias Mallo.
Plus, a couple of relevant snippets from the Windows asset '
README.md' file:
This repository contains mostly the original code of Dillo with some minor patches. Additional patches or pull requests are welcome.
As a final aside, those "
minor patches" look quite extensive to me...
