This is a portable version of Unlocker: http://portableappz.blogspot[use caution when visiting this website].com/2008/05/portable-unlocker-187-multilang.html
It needs to be tested, but seems to be fully portable (also from the registry).
I read up on some old threads where people were saying there's no portable version of Unlocker, which is by far the best file unlocking tool.
Well, I just found a development version on PortableApps.com:
Yah, this is one of wraithdu's projects. I'm about to test it, but I expect it to work great. He's done other very useful projects such as Sandboxie portable, EraserDropTarget portable, etc.
- Improved behavior: Improved the way DLLs are unloaded.
- Promotional feature: Added fully optional shortcuts to eBay during the installation. Simply untick "eBay shortcuts" in the choose components page during install if you do not wish to have those.
Be careful about the eBay adware thing!
Search the new portable version on the blog that Lupo73 already mentioned.
I've been forever hoping that unlocker could be portable, but knowing that just because it's zipped up doesn't mean it was portable, I thought I would write a post.
I'm hoping that someone with knowledge on how to test its portability could check it out. If unlocker is really portable, full functionality, including shell extension (maybe it removes the dll after closing unlocker), it would be great to finally see unlocker as an included app.
I missed that download link. I tried it but couldn't get it to work (checked MD5 and it was correct).
I use http://portableapps.com/node/12210 which doesn't leave any trace on the machine as it unregisters UnlockerCOM.dll and deletes HKCR\CLSID\UnlockerShellExtension & HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_UNLOCKERDRIVER5. I would presume the 'Official' version doesn't clean the appropriate RegKeys.
to get it to work, install unlocker then uninstall, then go to your registry and delete all the unlocker entries
then the unlocker portable should work, I have no idea why you have to install first, but it works :S don't ask me why lol
it will write to the legacy thing in registry, so it isnt very stealthy
The only reason I prefer doing this as opposed to using the other portable one is because the portableapps one doesnt let me create a shortcut in sendto folder and work. unless I didnt do it right :S and I dont want to leave it running in background, only want it to run when I use it then have it close after I'm done with it
