Use the GUI, I think it's the one listed here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=102423
but I've had it so long I can't be sure.

Updated a few days ago to 3.5.00b. The list of changes is not small.

Extraction instructions seem accurate but the newest version has an empty LOCATIONROOT file inside it and there's a portable install option. Will test it soon to make sure its still portable.

Update: both the extraction process and the "install as portable" options are both still portable.

check out version 4.0.10, it now works like xva ssistant!

changelog:
- Added the ability to open files from Windows (Desktop, etc) by dragging and dropping them on top of shortcuts in the workspace. The file you want to open with a program that is already in SideSlide does no longer have to be in the workspace as well. Example: Add a shortcut to the workspace to Notepad++ and drag a text file from the desktop to the Notepad++ shortcut within SideSlide.

I tested out the latest version (4.44) and was surprised. I didn't really understand this as anything other than a fancy post-it notes program and a basic newreader, but this has really come a long way over the last few years. It now has an almost second desktop feel with very functional launcher controls, reminders, RSS feeds, image viewer, and much more. You can not just build a few highlight elements or a basic dashboard, but really get organized. A lot of energy has been spent to make this useful and clear, while still remaining lightweight. It's usually one or the other.

It's not super intuitive and some of the windows don't behave the way I expect, but this is so far out in front of similar tools in terms of usability, I can't complain. It's a definite stand-out in the launcher category.

Resource usage (RAM/Disk Space): 21 megs / 2 megs

Similar programs: Makagiga, sh'elf
