Re: Alternate Pic View (image editor and viewer)
EDIT: after the fact, I noticed there's a Alternate Pic View ready-made portable download package available for download (see end of post).
Tested OSS Alternate Pic View a little further and found it an extremely light, no-frills yet capable editor and viewer for image files so I'm beefing up the topic.
After reviewing, Softpedia has granted Alternate Pic View a badge of "Excellent" and it claims compatibility with every version of Windows since 98! It packages half a dozen of related utilities (see menu capture below) -- as well of its source code -- and, should you decide to install on Windows XP or older, there's an installation option to take care of compatibility (check below).
Moreover, it can be easily (Uni)extracted, but I reckon you're better off performing an install/uninstall cycle on account of the large number of (mostly INI) files you'll have to rename otherwise -- after deleting some, I was still left with no less than 23 unique INI files. As reported by smaragdus above, making Alternate Pic View portable is a simple matter of editing its 'SavePath.ini' file: place a single dot between the quotes to point to the program's folder (like this "."). After that no traces will be left on the system, unless you decide to associate file types via the included utility.
Download Alternate Pic View latest release (currently v2.140, dated 2016-02-06) from http://www.alternate-tools.com/pages/c_picview.php.
Well, after all my testing, I just realized the website offers a portable package download (still v2.130, apparently): www.alternate-tools.com/pages/c_picview_portable.php...

Alternative Archiver Portable
Short version: there's a lot here but it's not getting posted to Submission because the program is a mess. Keep moving.
---
First and foremost you have to know this isn't a compression program. It's actually a bunch of tools but as far as I can tell, none of them makes a zip file. Instead it appears to move files to another folder and set up subfolders based on dates (e.g. year / month / etc.)
Then there are a lot of programs under the hood that aren't specifically connected to archiving including a DLL Analyzer, FileShredder, temp file cleaner (aka "Clean" / "Directory") and sync program (FileMove). It wasn't terribly clear from the interface how this works and the help file isn't particularly clear either.
If you're willing to spend some time and patience on this program, there's clearly a lot of functionality but there are already tools on the site that do many of these functions in a more intuitive manner.
Portable: Yes. The program appears to save everything to a series of included .ini files named for each of the EXE files inside. Stealth: untested.

Re: Alternate QR Code Generator
On the QR Code Generator program...
Great discovery, thank you. Even better, it looks like (from your other posts) that this applies to quite a few programs. It's funny as I was using Alternate QR for months even though it wasn't portable because of the customizable background. I don't have quite as much of a need for QR tools, but we don't currently have a QR program in the database. I'll try to get that added in the weeks ahead.Rudy5 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 10:21 am Not portable; writes to AppData\Local\Alternate and saves two Installation.ini files to ProgramData and Users\All Users. As the program has only a handful of settings to save, some more forgiving users might accept this as portable, but it doesn't qualify by site standards.
I didn't take a look to other tools but probably they can all be made portable if you edit the SavePath.ini
For this one, you set ApplicationStorage=".\"
Re: Alternate QR Code Generator
Yeah, I should know better by now -- if you type in QR in the site search it comes up empty: https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?q=qr&m=
Re: Alternate Tools
A simple program for synchronization (or mirroring) of the content of two folders. To achieve this, the amount of necessary file operations is reduced to a minimum. The program offers several options/settings to do this processing like
- File comparison by size
- File comparison by date (different, older, newer)
- File comparison by content
- Adding missing files to target folder
- Removing files that are not contained in source folder
- Include empty folders into synchronization

A simple calculator which can also be used for currency translations (E.g. Euro). It already includes a set of predefined currencies and exchange rates which also may be modified individually. An internal editor is included which can be used for recoding and saving the already executed calculation steps.
The calculator may also be used for conversation between different number systems (decimal, hexadecimal, binary, customer defined). The program is customizable in its window size and appearance. It is freeware. The program needs the .NET-framework 2.0 or above (which is already included in Windows since Windows Vista).

This program offers the possibility to finally delete files and/or folders (no recovery possible). The program also can overwrite the free space on a drive, which means, that already deleted files cannot be restored, too.
The program offers also options to select how the overwriting shall be done (using a specific value, random values or a file-content as template). The program is freeware/open source, it requires the .NET-framework 2.0 (already included in operation system since Windows Vista).
IMPORTANT NOTE: You are using this program at your own risk. Think carefully which files you want to delete!
