A program to Assign hot-key-combos to Function-keys ?

#1 Post by vmars316 »

Hello & Thanks,
The Function-keys , volume and brightness keys
stopped working on my ThinkPad .
Function-keys etc, are not actualy keys
but a touch sensitive plastic strip with
images of Function-keys etc..
Is there a freeware program that will allow me
to assign various Hot key combos to Function-keys etc. ?
Thanks

Actually in this case I really recommend getting the latest software updates from Lenovo. There are key assignment tools here on the site but they'll likely be a distant shadow of what the official software can do.

That said, some programs that might do the trick:

HoeKey

X-HotkeyP

Thanks,
I have exhausted Lenovo's resources.

The prob is that I don't know the name of the windows *.exe
that actually changes screen brightness .
If I knew that, then I could aim a shortcut at that .
Thanks

the problem is, that these laptop-specific FN-keys are no normal keys,
they are only working by some bios-assistance and driver-installation,
if your FN-keys are mechanically broken, I think no tool can replace them,
but nevertheless ClickMonitorDDC from clickmonitorddc.bplaced.net/
could sove your problem, because with this tool you can define
key-combinations (with alt, ctrl, shift, and so on)
and you can assign a commandline to this key-combination
for instance
b + 10
each time you press this key-combination (or auto-repeat) your screen-brightness would increase by 10
and define another hotkey and assign
b - 10
you can also define commandlines for volume, for instance v + 20
or you simply use your mouse-wheel over the ClickMonitorDDC-notification-icons for increasing/decreasing the values,
this tool is really very flexible and impressive
