I have used Hekasoft Backup & Restore and it works fine but unfortunately it is not portable. Currently "Dead Links Checker" works only with Internet Explorer so it is useless for me. I do not understand why support for SRWare Iron was removed.

More on this soon but I have to say smaragdus' overview posts just keep getting better and better. The breakdown on each screenshot is both helpful and clear.

Just a note that this still requires dotNET 4.0.

License: Freeware, but depending on how you read "3.2 d) [user is not authorized to] transmit or provide access to any third-party sources;" you can't mirror this program. This is a problem if the authors decide to go payware or just close up shop (something we deal with a fair amount here on the site). http://www.hekasoft.com/eula/

> unfortunately it is not portable

That's a shame. This is a really impressive backup solution.

Thanks for sharing Hekasoft Backup & Restore, we really hope that you will find it useful.
We really care about what users says about our software, so often we search on the web about our softwares, and we've found your forum.

About our EULA license 3.2d, the main reason is because we are a small team and we don't want/can't pay for a certificate which can attest that the installer has not be altered, this way we hope to discuorage people from do that.
Actually we have no problem with safe mirrors (backup & restore is available on softpedia, toolslib and other websites)

Hekasoft Backup & Restore will always be free, we really want to keep it free, we planned to add a cloud backup feature in the future, that will be available after a in-app purchase, but the software will always be free.

About the portable version, many users asked us to do it portable, and is on our to-do list.

@Hekasoft

First, welcome to the forum and thanks for your excellent Hekasoft Backup & Restore program.

Some time ago I asked for a portable version and you mentioned that you were working to make all your software portable. If this happens I will submit Hekasoft Backup & Restore to the database and will also review your nice text editor Hekapad at the forum. In my opinion portability will add more value to your programs and most likely will make them more popular.

Please consider restoring support for SRWare Iron- the program is still in active development, the latest version, 59.0.3100.0, was released on 2017-06-22.

@smaragdus

Yes we received many requests asking a portable version, and we will make it, in the next update we will fix bugs and add minor features, so will not be portable yet.
About Hekapad, actually we are working to add code highlight in it and other new features, we are working on it in these weeks, so if we can add portability in the next update for the release date we will do it

About SRWare Iron, it was wrongly reported to us as inactive, so we removed it from our supported softwares, but we will restore its support in the next update, thank you

That's kinda weird. I always thought of all types of software out there, portable backup tools make the most sense. Strange.

Happily the FAQ item was taken down and there is now a "portable" version (untested) now posted to the download page: https://www.hekasoft.com/hekasoft-backup-restore/ ... plus, 0.81 was just released a few days ago: https://www.softpedia.com/progChangelog ... 13991.html
