Ninja Download Manager [discontinued]

#1 Post by webfork »

This program didn't really grab me so I don't recommend additional testing without some significant improvements. I couldn't determine if the program or just the free version was badly out of date or what, but it just felt like a very incomplete program as compared to (for example) the free version of FDM.

Steps: Download and run Uniextact2

Status: not portable: writes settings to C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\DownloadNinja

Ninja Download Manager was initially called Download Ninja. Ninja Download Manager Build 33 was free without any limitations. It has been portabilized by thumbapps:

thumbapps page - http://www.thumbapps.org/2015/04/Downlo ... table.html
SourceForge Download Page - https://sourceforge.net/projects/thumba ... 20Manager/

Note
Despite the anouncement thumbapps still get updates.

Compared to Free Download Manager 3, Ninja Download Manager is terrible, but in fact it is similar and perhaps even better than Free Download Manager 5. Free Download Manager 5, EagleGet, Ninja Download Manager and Xtreme Download Manager are in the same league- dumbed-down, "modern-looking", barely customizable. This trend defies the use of an external download manager. Nowadays good old Free Download Manager 3 has almost no free alternatives- I hope it will continue to get at least maintenance releases (the latest one is from 2017-04-09).

Very odd.

Interesting -- thanks for the breakdown. That might save me some time in the near future.
