ASFBin - WMV, AVI, ASF repair

#1 Post by eldad »

Hi Guys,
I found a small portable utility that fix/repair broken WMV, AVI and ASF. It can also be used to resize the movie.
Tried it and it looks OK. What do you think?

Can be found on:

Topic update: AsfBin(Win) v1.8(.3.934, last release) still available (major version changelog is at http://www.radioactivepages.com/asfbindetails.aspx).

A valuable resource for processing the proprietary MS formats, AsfBin(Win) can be readily extracted and run -- but it still isn't natively portable on account of behavior detailed above. The latest release also inserts a "Processed by freeware version of AsfBin" in output files description metadata (overwriting previous values!) and occasionally shows a nag dialog (see below). :(
 • http://www.radioactivepages.com/asfbin.aspx author wrote:AsfBin is a full implementation of ASF file specification completely independent from Microsoft Windows Media Format SDK. This makes AsfBin especially powerful when it comes to fixing damaged ASF/WMV files. It can repair almost all types of errors within your favourite video files. Now AsfBin tool comes along with AsfBinWin application, which, thanks to an easy to use user interface and its preview capabilities, makes work with video files really simple.

Interesting ... I still have some old low-quality ASF and WMV files. This might come in handy.

Just for the record, the aforementioned newer version writes it to:
%SystemRoot%\asfbinwin.INI

Not a lot of date information on the home page but Majorgeeks at least is suggesting there's still development activity as recent as Sept 2017: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/asfbin.html

Changelog: http://www.radioactivepages.com/asfbindetails.aspx#news

License: free for non-commercial use

Requires: requires MFC 9.0 libraries available in the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) (see website)

Command-line version available.

---

As Midas noted earlier in the thread, it might still be nagware. I didn't test this most recent version.
