Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Avidemux

#1 Post by ashghost »

[Moderator note: this is the primary Avidemux program thread. View database entry]

----

The settings written to the user directory are those under Edit - Preferences, but there doesn't seem to be anything I would want to change and maintain between machines. It doesn't write anything to the registry.

Avidemux 2.4.1

Size 22-47 MB (uncompressed) - depending on which executables and libraries you keep

Website: http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/
Download: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/avidem ... _win32.zip

Category: Video - Conversion, Video - Processing

Synopsis: Avidemux is a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. It supports many file types, including AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF, using a variety of codecs. Tasks can be automated using projects, job queue and powerful scripting capabilities.

Writes settings to: User directory (Documents and Settings/<username>/Avidemux/

Dependencies: QT4 or GTK+ (both included in application directory)

How to extract: Download the portable ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch either avidemux2_gtk.exe or avidemux2_qt4.exe.

To save space, you can delete the command-line version (avidemux2_cli.exe - 7.2 MB) and one of the gui versions and its libraries:

avidemux2_gtk.exe, libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll, libgtk-win32-2.0-0.dll, gtk2_prefs.exe = 12 MB
or
avidemux2_qt4.exe, QtCore4.dll, QtGui4.dll = 18.4 MB

Stealth: No

Unicode support: Yes

This is another exception that must be included in the database.

Today is updated to version 2.4.2.

Giving the reason that Portable GIMP is included in the Database and AviDemux opens faster than it.

And the main is that is very useful

This is probably the best free video editor available.

I use the the portable version from WinPenPack.
It takes care of the folder created in AppData > Roaming, making it stealth.

You can get it here:
http://www.winpenpack.com/en/download.php?view.734

I use the latest version 2.5 Build 7296.
To update WinPenPack's version..
Download the portable Zip from here: (32Bit / 64Bit)
http://avidemux.razorbyte.com.au/

Extract the Zip and paste in "Bin" > "avidemux" of WinPenPack's version.

Avidemux is natively portable. Simply rename avidemux.exe to avidemux_portable.exe

Tested: settings saved to program folder under "settings" subfolder.
Stealth: No. Qt keys in registry, no traces on filesystem.

7z builds: Note: X-Avidemux only seems to work with the 32bit builds.

Avidemux is currently @ v2.6.13

@shnbwmn

In short there are two builders for Avidemux Portable: 8)
1. winPenPack (32 bit only)
- web site download page: http://www.winpenpack.com/en/download.php?view.734
- Sourceforge link direct download: https://sourceforge.net/projects/winpen ... p/download
2. ThumbApps (32/64 bit)
- web site (search Avidemux): http://www.thumbapps.org/
- Sourceforge 'Music_Video': https://sourceforge.net/projects/thumba ... sic_Video/
- Sourceforge 'Avidemux': https://sourceforge.net/projects/thumba ... /Avidemux/
- Sourceforge Avidemux link direct download 32 bit: https://sourceforge.net/projects/thumba ... e/download
- Sourceforge Avidemux link direct download 64 bit: https://sourceforge.net/projects/thumba ... e/download

b.t.w.
You can also use wPP Avidemux launcher and change binaries for 32 bit to 64 bit...

So just to be sure I ran a test. it's writing to the local settings folder. If you don't rename the .exe file, it writes to the appdata\roaming.

It's still a little unintuitive but it works great. I was able to add a new audio track to an existing MP4 track, cut the last minute, and then save without recompression. Awesome.

I'll try to switch this over to the natively portable version in the next week or two.
