Portable flowchart list

#1 Post by webfork »

Image

I recently did some digging for available flowchart programs here on the site. This generally defined as having the ability to build from a traditional item set (box, circle, diamond, etc. as above) to build connections that move with objects. This isn't intended to cover Visio replacements, just handle one thing that Visio does well.
Can do basic flowchart elements or help build drafts
 • XMInd - has a decision tree and a cause-and effect analysis
 • ONLYOFFICE - (not portable) has some shapes and will line up items in the presentation tool
 • Gliffy - web-based (Commercial)
Did I miss any?

EDIT: Missed yED, Gliffy, and Diagram Designer.

Wiki has a reference page about Free Diagramming Software currently listing 10 entries.

No mention about portability, but might be worth a look all the same.

Nice. 8)

But, keeping in view that it ain't merely iddle OT "Chit-Chat", I wonder if "Resources & Links" wouldn't be a more suitable location for the topic?

I'd like to add one more which I thought was in the DB, namely EVE (Embedded Vector Editor) by Barry Kauler http://barryk.org/goosee/.

Virtually ALL my flowcharts for 15 years have been drawn with Eve, which is fully portable, and consists of one file, eve.exe of less than 100k. It writes no entries to the registry, and works with, in my experience, Windows 95, 97, 98, 200, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. It uses Windows functions to keep its size small. The intro manual is an .eve file, and a full manual is on the web site. The owner is not developing it for many years but in 2011 release the code to the public.

The interface is a bit stark, but once you get used to it, the interface is simple.

I had thought it was in DB, but as it is not (none of my searches find even a mention of it), it might be considered?

It actually was but it dropped out when Andrew pulled programs that only he had contributed but had no other votes. The only other post I could find it discussed was actually yours.

Thanks for re-adding Eve. For those to whom it is new, a good interactive tutorial is in the file EVEIntro.eve, which comes with the application. I went for a couple of years before I had to go to the web site for the Eve Manual.

I used BluMind in the past for some mind-mapping stuff.

Could be used as a flowchart as well.
is it stealth? ;)
