Sculptris Alpha 5 - by Pixologic freeware version of ZBrush

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Sculptris wants you to make 3D models. Download it and have a go! I'm sure you will enjoy.

This program is basically a free version of z-brush and as far as I can tell totally portable within under 5mb
:D

*edit* It appears to create individual *.dat files to store setting in.

"As a taste of things to come, Pixologic would also like to give you a little appetizer ‘goodie’, an Alpha version of Sculptris for Windows - a unique, very ‘cool’ artistic modeling application still in raw baby stage and now incubating at Pixologic HQ.
The current version, formerly known as Sculptris 1.02, will be renamed under Pixologic banner as Sculptris Alpha 5."

Does this mean it could be unstable? Is it alpha version or it's just part of the name?

I have absolutely no clue about 3D modelling, but I randomly pushed some buttons (made a 3D smiley) and it seems portable (requires msvcr71.dll). :)

Is it in alpha? Yes, but as far as I can tell it's pretty stable. I only had it crash a few times (due to such a high poly count) and when you restart the program it asks you if you'd like to recover the previous model which saves automatically every few minutes.

The original version 1.02 of Sculptris is now available under the name Alpha 5
It is at least version 1, so it appears that "Alpha" is the name of the product, not the version.

It also does not follow normal versioning schemes: 0.9 alpha, 0.9a, etc.

So Sculptris Alpha 6 (pointed out by another poster) is out and requires you submit an email address and then it sends you the download code.

The program also has some requirements, including a graphics card:

Operating System: Windows XP SP2/Vista/Seven.
Processor: 1Ghz Pentium 4 and above (or compatible).
Memory: 1 GB of RAM.
Graphic Card: ATI or NVidia card with openGL 2.0 support.
Screen Resolution: 1024x768
Recommended: Wacom or compatible graphics tablet

Some impressions of the program:

First, what I put in the requirements isn't true. I have a crap video card, but the program worked fine. A good processor (I have a core 2 duo) is all that was necessary. However, when I loaded down the computer with any extra tasks, it slowed badly. Anything involving the wireframe was impossible to work with.

Good: Simple, cool, and a lot of fun. You really do have the ability to sculpt a 3D object and it really is easy to use and impressive. Its little wonder they make all these 3D movies now -- it seems like a lot of fun.

Bad:
* No multi-level undo. No redo.
* This is a very basic version of the program and as you get into it, you'll likely feel your ability to move to the next level mean you need to get the full version. Mission accomplished for the people who put this program together, but not real great for freeware folks.

Just a note that Alpha 6 is out. There may be a way to get this to run portably, but I wasn't able to get the installer to extract and there is no ZIP version.

The website asks for registration but you can just type in anything and still download. Alternatively, it's hosted on Softpedia:

Appears that Alpha 6 is the last version.

Just tried unpacking with UniExtract updated with upx 3.95 and still no go.
