Why this program is important:
A brightness tool like this can saves time and money but if you don't have something built into your system the process for turning down the brightness is really tedious. I didn't realize how spoiled I was to have something built right into the keyboard but not every computer has this as I found out this week. In fairness, MOST systems have a system for handling this but in those rare situations where you can't, this might help out.
Just for reference, here's the really tedious manual process (on Win7):
- Navigate to the control panel - power options - edit plan settings
- Change the "plugged in" brightness a little, click save. If that's not quite what you wanted, you have to re-click the Change plan settings and do this again and again.
Unfortunately this program launches and goes into memory but gives an error message that it can't detect the screen, probably because it's inside a VMware image.
