Checksum Compare at version 1.4, still not portable, changes in the latest version:
VERSION 1.4
Last version before a complete rewrite of the code to make it available on Windows/Linux/Mac OSX (No ETA, pretty Busy for now)
New : At the end of comparison, there's now a recap window for those who compare large number of files. You can view at a glance which files are different and which are missing. You can also copy the list in clipboard.
I contacted the developer requesting a truly portable version.
Edit
Good news- the developer was kind enough to respond to my request and he promised to try to make Checksum Compare portable as soon as possible.
The developer of Checksum Compare was extremely quick in preparing a really portable version upon my request! The latest version- 1.42, was released several minutes ago. I tested it and I confirm that it is Portable- Checksum compare.ini is stored by default in program folder!
Changes in Checksum Compare version 1.42:
Current Version: v1.42
Fix
- Portable Version was saving configuration in AppData.
- Now saved into executable directory.
Testing notes: the program itself sort of confused me: this is a comparison tool between directories along with a hashing component. However, the hashing check just asks you for a value rather than checking a hash file (.MD5 or .SHA). Even one that it creates. Weird.
Steps:
1. Download 7zip and extract
2. Run Checksum compare.exe
3. Click Edition - Options and choose English from the dropdown menu
4. Click Sauver and Yes when prompted to restart
License: Freeware for personal use only
Status: Portable, writes settings to Checksum compare.ini
Stealth: untested, but it uses Qt libraries so it's probably writing standard trolltech junk.
