Seeking image downloader software [resolved]

#1 Post by webfork »

I've been asked by one of my friends to put together some black and white coloring pages along a specific theme so I went digging for some image downloader tools to help speed up the process. Unfortunately, the only thing that seemed to work broadly was the Chrome add-on Image Downloader. Some image hosting sites would work with WinHTTrack or Free Download Manager, but only occasionally. The only program that worked with reasonable success was ImageDownloader (worked fine with Chromium Portable). Google's image search found exactly what I needed from a variety of sites but there didn't seem to be any batch tools there that seem to work well with that service.

Two tools tested are portable but don't work:
Ghacks recommends Bulk Image Downloader but this isn't freeware anymore. I've tested Image Collector in the past with mixed results.

Any suggestions?

Few additional notes:

* PFind - I hadn't tested this, which Emka posted about and Baas tested. So far the grabbing component doesn't seem to work with anything but supported website.
* ImageRipper - doesn't seem to work with any sites and the "supported" list appears to be in mostly Japanese. It does appear to be portable (writes no settings)
* Grabber - works but only with a very narrow set of images

Trialware and non-portable, but the best in this class from way back: Teleport Pro (http://www.tenmax.com/teleport/pro/home.htm).

Dunno about Mihov Picture Downloader, haven't tried it, hopefully it's of use.

I remember I did wrote a software able to do that and much more. It was a long time ago. Unfortunately I lost the source and the binary. You might be able to find it on the net. The name was Image leach.

I found this link talking about it: http://www.fobec.com/CMS/logiciel/windo ... h_782.html

and screenshot:

I know I maintained it till version 2.4 by memory... but cannot find anything on the net about it.

Other wise you can try this one: http://sourceforge.net/projects/imgleech/ some sort of clone in function of Image Leach called ... Hmmm ... Image Leech.

If more than one people would like such software developed as stealth portable, I might give it a go.

Take care. Have all a nice day.

You might have a look at BilderHerunterlader which I have just reviewed- it works fine but it requires Java.

This process was interrupted for a few months but was eventually resolved by a non-portable NeoDownloader Lite:

http://www.neodownloader.com/

It will only download JPEGs and has limits on file size, speed, and total number of downloads, but it worked great.

Since every other program insists on expanding the image to fill the page (and thus ruins the whole point of a coloring book), I used LibreOffice Draw to arrange all the images for printing. It was great.
