Popcorn Maker (http://popcorn.webmaker.org/) has proved really handy for recent video mashups, so I'm thinking it surely deserves a post -- it's part of the the Webmaker.org set of online utilities made by Mozilla that also includes X-Ray Goggles, Thimble, and Appmaker (see http://webmaker.org/en-US/tools).

• Popcorn Maker helps you easily remix web video, audio and images into cool mashups that you can embed on other websites. Drag and drop content from the web, then add your own comments and links – all within your browser. Popcorn Maker videos are dynamic, full of links and unique with every view. It lets you add various media including media from YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Audiour and HTML5 media. [...] You also don't need to worry on saving the videos on your system. Your videos will be hosted by Mozilla for free. So you also save disk space.

Mozilla.org is pulling the plug on Popcorn Maker...

• Appmaker and Popcorn Maker will remain available until Wednesday, Sept. 30, after which they will be inaccessible. We are no longer able to provide bug fixes and user support for these tools. However, users will still be able to access makes created with these tools in a read-only capacity, even after Sept. 30. To do so, visit webmaker.org/me and sign in. And as open source projects, the code for these tools will continue to be available for reuse at http://github.com/mozilla/popcorn_maker and http://github.com/mozilla-appmaker/appmaker.

Mozilla.org is pulling the plug

I think this is part of Mozilla's effort to throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks. Some stuff makes it obviously and other things don't. Bummer.

Hopefully the code can continue in some format without their sponsorship.
