CopyQ clipboard manager

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

CopyQ clipboard manager

#1 Post by Midas »

In the era of the clipboard manager, everyday you find one. :)

Here's CopyQ, a Qt based, multi-platform (Windows, MacOS, and Linux), OSS offering that appears to be portable on Windows (stealth status unchecked!) -- settings from the zip version are kept in a 'config' sub-folder (FreewareFiles.com also lists a prior version as portable, cf. www.freewarefiles.com/CopyQ-Portable_program_88209.html).

http://hluk.github.io/CopyQ/ wrote:CopyQ is [a] clipboard manager with searchable and editable history.

Check the homepage at http://hluk.github.io/CopyQ/ for more info. CopyQ current Windows version (v2.1.0) can be downloaded from Sourceforge, at http://sourceforge.net/projects/copyq/ ("Browse all files" and download the zipped package).

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Copyq\Copyq-bak\Theme
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Copyq\Copyq-bak

plus...

Trolltech keys in the registry.

Tested this out recently and very impressed.

Good
  • Supports some good looking color schemes (I like the "dark" theme), 14 world languages, GPG encryption, images, has a directory sync so you could set it up to work with DropBox or something similar.
  • Has some very interesting commands available to execute or open a particular bit of text. I'm very interested to see what this can do.
  • Lots of great command-line options for potential automation.
Bad
  • Even above the portability issue is that it doesn't have a global shortcut (like CTRL+SHIFT+X for ClipCube and CTRL+SHIFT+Z for ArsClip) so the program has to actually be opened via the taskbar before you can interact with it. This is a real problem for a clipboard program that needs to work over top of other programs.
Also writes files in the included tabbed editor to AppData. Might contact the dev about portability and the global hotkey if I come back to this.

Looks like they fixed some Windows issues so I guess I gotta check this out again.

Update: appears to be portable! (Stealth unknown; didn't test Qt registry stuff. Saves settings to /config. Moving to Submission ...

Update 2: still no global shortcut. Sigh. The encrypt function is also very confusing, alternately requiring and then not requiring GPG. Not much in the way of documentation. This review is still accurate: http://www.softwarecrew.com/2014/04/cop ... d-manager/

Hi, Author of CopyQ here. Let me clear few things.

Application is portable only if it's installed in a folder where it has write access. That's usually where you unpack the portable zip archive (but not under "Program Files" which is default install location with the official installer).

Global shortcuts are supported. You can set them by pressing F6 key in main window (or from "Commands/Global Shortcuts" menu item under "File" menu). Some useful frequent shortcuts and commands can be added using the "Add" button. It's still a bit clumsy but you can write any command you want and assign custom global shortcut.

I actually don't like unnecessary or long documentation for applications -- I never have the patience to read it. I'm trying to make the interface to be self-explanatory so that user can gradually learn how to use it.

Anyway, bits and pieces of documentation can be found here.

The app is still under active development so be patient.

CopyQ v2.4.4 is available.

https://github.com/hluk/CopyQ/blob/master/CHANGES

Settings in Application folder but also writes an empty key to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\copyq\copyq plus the usual Trolltech junk keys to the registry.

In version 2.6.0 Commands/Global shortcuts don't work for me, this problem doesn't appear in version 2.5.0.
I contacted the developer and it turned out that the problem with shortcuts affected only the function keys. He fixed it and now version 2.6.1 works just fine.
