Locate32 - indexing search

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Here's what happened to me; I extracted to my 'Portable Partition' (D:\...\...\Locate) then ran the program and changed the default database location,
did a couple of searches and closed the program, at this point Program Compatibility Assistant notified me of some settings/changes it had made.

On second run the program opened (no UAC prompt), did a search but no database found, the database was in Locate's folder but no portable.reg file.

Went back and changed the default database location (again) and exited the program (UAC prompt), this time the portable.reg file was created.

Every subsequent run of the program prompts UAC on open and close.

It doesn't write anything to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so I don't know why the Program Compatibility Assistant; 'Elevated Create_Process' which now triggers the UAC prompt.

Possible problem

I've been using Locate32 a great deal over the past few months (has saved me a lot of time). About a week ago some of the locations of mapped drives changed and about that time seems to have dropped the local database files and automatically created an \Application Data\Locate32\files.dbs file. Very odd.

Few things:

1. So we're listing V3.1.9.6060 but linking to a download at 3.1.9.06070. Not sure this is a big deal or what.
2. I haven't been able to recreate the transferrance of the file database from the application folder to appdata. Either way I sent the developer a note asking him/her to include that in future versions if they decide to come back to it.

Just switched from Everything to Locate32 because of Everything needed admin rights and couldn't use it at workplace. So far so good.

Current situation of the development of Locate32
Probably quite many people have noticed this, but I think I should clarify the current situation of development of Locate32. There are only one developer in this project (me), so the development mostly depends on my plans:

My plan for next four years is to stay in NZ for about 9 months per year and rest of time (northern summer) in Finland. In NZ, I will not have any Windows computers with me (I'm mostly Mac user nowadays) and working with Locate32 is impossible. During summer time, I have my old Windows computer and in principle I can do something about it. However, the thing nowadays seems to be that I have lost almost all passion to stay inside whole weekends and do programing instead of going out and enjoy summer.

I'm sorry to tell this, but probably now all knows what that will mean for the future of Locate32 (unless someone else will take care of the project). However, I try to keep this site running and ask question as much I can.
Latest versions (3.1.11.7100) available @ http://locate32.net/files/daily/

Interesting.

Well, the program is BSD-licensed. Maybe someone will jump in to help out while the primary dev is computer-less. I've been looking for a Locate32 replacement for a while now and have had little success, so for the time being I'll take a yearly update as good news.

I think it's just an older version labeled wrong. It's 3.1.10.8220 in file properties. I think version 3.1.11.7110 is still the latest, no matter the upload date.

There are newer Locate32 versions (v3.1.11.8220a), for both XP SP3 and later Windows, with filenames that include "fix" but no changelog:
A 'Readme.txt' file at the same location explains the following:

Again, there is no 3.1.11.8220a version. I still think it's mislabeled!

This is the latest version:

P.S. check also the size of the files; it's not a rule, but, usually, the latest version includes bigger size files; also v3.1.11.7100>v3.1.10.8220a.

Maybe SF.net played a bit with this project as well...
