Bit Che (Torrent Search Framework)

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Moreover, the latest portable BitChe is silently failing to run on my Windows 7 (even after I set it in compatibility mode back to XP), for reasons I have no clue about... :(
I had previously mentioned that setting but since portable=1 already adds that anyway it seemed redundant.

It wfm on Windows 7 and 8... you might be missing a dependency. Check if you have MSVBVM60.DLL in your system. Could also be a firewall preventing it from starting.

  • Oh, I missed that then, sorry. I have 'MSVBVM60.DLL' in 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64', shouldn't that be enough? As for the firewall, as I'm rather permissive with it, shouldn't I be warned when a connection is blocked?

And thanks for chiming in, Userfriendly. :)

No idea why it would fail to start without any warnings. If an app fails but is fine on a fresh install, it could mean other apps could potentially have problems starting as well. I usually give up troubleshooting and just restore from a fresh system image of whatever OS. Faster than figuring things out.

But before nuking is considered an option, does older versions still work? Maybe running it with admin privileges? Is the executable unblocked (right-click > properties > general > security)? It could also possibly require other runtimes like Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2010, 2013 etc.

@Midas: Download the installer and extract. Dependencies are under the {sys} folder. Move them to the application folder, next to Bit_Che.exe. Register mscomctl.OCX. Does this do the trick?

PS: Administrator rights are needed to register files...

Sorry to kick this up again, I had an older version working (I think it was v3.0).
I tried to make a portable version from the newest version but it doesn't work.

Te recap:

1)
Create a fresh "settings.ini" in the folder where the bit che executable is. It must contain:

[Options]
Version=3
Portable=1

2)
Move the contents of the folder "c:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Convivea\Bit_Che\3\"
to the folder of the bit che executable.

Also tried:
- a modified "settings.ini" from a fully installed version but with the "Portable=1" modification.
- run as admin
- check if the process was running (CTRL+ALT+DEL >> Windows Task Manager), but it wasn't
- EDIT: the version that is included here: http://convivea.com/forums/index.php/to ... l#msg21318
(scroll down to "bit_che_3_5_18_portable.zip")
- EDIT: turned off Microsoft Security and Malwarebytes, still no successful portable boot of bit che

For the life of me, I do not know why it isn't working with the latest version.
I had an older version working perfectly, but I got to much incorrect/empty search results so I had to upgrade.
When I double click the bit che executable, it doesn't do anything (I do not get an error of some sorts)

AIO Runtime Packs

#22 Post by Userfriendly »

@t3ster
Might be missing some runtime dependencies... Read lautrepay's post above yours.

I like to install AIO MS Visual C++ packs so I can run most software out there without issues like from here. One such installer:
http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/9790 ... le-x86x64/

Crazier pack which includes flash, java, silverlight, directx, .NET etc. Some components are outdated so it's just better to install separately.
http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/1302 ... k-x86-x64/

List of updated repacked installers from that wincert forum.
http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/1290 ... -may-2015/

Ghacks articles talking about such a method.
http://www.ghacks.net/2012/08/24/instal ... in-one-go/
http://www.ghacks.net/2009/11/07/instal ... e-runtime/

I also like to use this system checker to quickly find missing runtimes.
atmzzrSystemCheck: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10378

You can get them individually if you don't trust 3rd party sources but I just find this as convenient way to get the most up-to-date runtimes. Most programs, drivers or games install them alongside but are usually an older version with security flaws.

I could have created another thread talking about this but it doesn't seem that important.

  • I share the same persuasion, but I never crossed paths with such a convenient installer. Grabbed (minus F# & J#, which I have never used). :)

Hi All,

Bit Che 3.5 build 26 has been officially released (June 6, 2015) :D
This is a bugfix release.
- Convivea home: http://www.convivea.com/
- download page with list of changes (What's new): http://convivea.com/forums/index.php/to ... l#msg21430
Here are the links for all versions:
1. direct download standalone (not portable): http://convivea.com/forums/index.php?ac ... ttach=2349
2. direct download install: http://convivea.com/forums/index.php?ac ... ttach=2350
3. direct download portable: http://convivea.com/forums/index.php?ac ... ttach=2351

The main improvement is enable TLS 1.2 for HTTPS connections: see this post http://blog.wisefaq.com/2014/09/22/enab ... ndows-7-8/
(TLS means Transport Layer Security over the internet).
Probably most script need updating: http://convivea.com/forums/index.php/to ... l#msg21429. For updated scripts see this post 'Current Scripts and Submit New/Updated Scripts': http://convivea.com/forums/index.php/to ... l#msg21401
