ISO2Disc (direct image burner)

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

ISO2Disc (direct image burner)

#1 Post by Midas »

ISO2Disc (http://www.top-password.com/iso2disc.html) is another direct ISO burner utility freeware from the creator of TakeOwnershipPro (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2650), whose main point of interest may be its Windows To Go USB creation ability with either MBR or GPT partitions.

Although the homepage claims compatibility and I could (Uni)extract it easily, I was unable to test ISO2Disc portability, since it refused to run on Windows XP, even after normal installation.
Download ISO2Disc latest release (no version or changelog, but the executable is marked v1.0.9.0) from http://www.top-password.com/iso2disc.html.

BTW, a tutorial for Windows To Go creation is also provided at http://www.top-password.com/blog/how-to ... -freeware/.

I just downloaded the "latest version" but it is the same one - v1.0.9.0, that Midas tried to test. Care to clarify?

The "How to extract" is inaccurate and suggest you followed the "install/uninstall method:

Code: Select all

2.Move all files in the {app} folder to a folder of your choice and delete these two files: unins000.exe and unins000.dat
You do not get those files if you (uni)extract the installer (I tried with 7Zip too but it failed to properly extract the application files). This is the content of the {app} folder:

Code: Select all

7z.dll
7z.exe
bootsect_x86.exe
ISO2Disc,1.exe
ISO2Disc,2.exe
libwim-15.dll
PEDrvManage.exe
wimgapi.dll

The "Suggested by" field is wrong too.

Hi! I am the developer of ISO2Disc. Thanks for pointing out the problems.
The version number is still kept in v1.09, but we've fixed the issue reported by Midas that ISO2Disc refused to run on Windows XP.
To extract the files from the installer, we need to install it firstly so we can then extract the portable files from the installation directory.
The "Suggested by" field should be Midas.
The problem is that I don't seem to have permissions to change this entry any longer.

Hi Baas! Thank you a lot!
The installer of ISO2Disc is created using Inno Setup 5.5.
But Universal Extractor only supports up to Inno Setup 5.309, so it would fail to extract the files from the installer.

Updated:
After replacing the innounp.exe file with the latest one, Universal Extractor can unpack correctly.
