That's not a generic title, that's the actual title of the game (or genre of games).
They're HIGHLY addictive and while the original versions were written in java, there are stand-alone applications that I don't think they even write any settings out, but to be honest, I haven't checked the registry.

There are versions for *nix, Windows, and Mac. For the most part, just unzip and run. My personal favorite is just the simple wxSand linked at http://rossrs.us/wxSand.zip Follow the link from the forums if you'd like, but it's the same one.
