Strong Passwords Need Entropy (password checker)

#1 Post by Midas »

Strong Passwords Need Entropy (SPNE) is yet another nifty security related toy with lots of options.
http://eddantes.blog4ever.com/strong-passwords-need-entropy-spne-12-may-2013 wrote:SPNE is a handy and lightweight application that you can use to determine the strength of your password. The program analyzes your password and displays its length, the character frequency and the number of symbols, lowercase and uppercase letters and digits. Based on this information, it calculates the password entropy, the number of trials needed to find it and the time to crack the password. You can also verify if your password is in the list of '10,000 Worst passwords'.

Tested and appears portable. Doesn't write settings anywhere, and nothing is added to the registry.

The UI is unusual in that each window opened replaces the previous window, and closing the window returns to the previous one.

Some other thoughts:

- Really could benefit from documentation on how the crypto is being generated imo.

- The Morse code generator only accepts virtual keyboard input.

- It's not clear what the 'CryptoCode' generator is.

Thanks, DarkShadow. Voted. :)

Also, I amended the entry -- overall style, plus changelog and keywords...
