Softpedia redesign (2014)

#1 Post by Midas »

Any opinions on the latest Softpedia.com redesign? I've been trying hard to love it, but so far it's not growing on me...

E.g., does anyone know how to find a product's webpage in there now? It was quite easy in the previous layout. :?

It is absolutely rubbish design. I hate it. You cant download without javascript. Old layout was much better. I am shifting my primary download location to - http://www.majorgeeks.com

I dislike it, too. :(
I guess they adopted M$ philosophy where everything must be "touch" friendly.

Yeah it's crap, but I still prefer it over other download sites because of their tendency to do screenshots well and list licenses clearly and correctly. Hopefully they fix the interface in the next few months or I'll start looking elsewhere.

Update here ... it seems they've switched to something that's a bit of a combination of old and new. I still feel like they're cutting off too much of the program description but oh well.

Edit: they're also cutting the license free/paid status for individual entries, but you can still filter the whole page.

I've used Softpedia for years and have liked it. Was getting used to the new setup but now find I can't use it in its present form.
It doesn't like IE 9
Runs OK in Chrome but that's not my preferred browser.
