Clipdiary [clipboard manager]

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Clipdiary [clipboard manager]

#1 Post by Onesimus Prime »

[Mod note: the present is the official forum topic for Clipdiary; https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2787]

Clipdiary is free today (4/26/09) at GOTD. TPFC seems to be having some problems right now (at least for me), so I hope any interested parties see this in time! I posted instructions for portable use here in the comments (duplicated below):
Actually, Clipdiary can be used portably. Here’s how to do it with the GOTD version (or at least, the somewhat hard method probably most in compliance with GOTD’s terms and conditions):

1. Install as described
2. Run the program - go through (or cancel) the setup wizard, then press Ctrl+D to open the main window.
3. Click on Help and select About.
4. Select “View detail information”. Clipdiary will show it, and also copy it to the clipboard.
5. Paste your “detail information” to Notepad or something. There should be a section near the end that has the key. It tells you very specifically “BEGIN KEY” and “END KEY” (but you can skip the blank lines on each side of the key). You’ll need this later.
6. Copy your install folder (default is C:\Program Files\Clipdiary) someplace. This will become your portable copy.

The install folder has a .bat file called “_RUN_Clipdiary_Portable.bat”
These are its contents:

rem You should copy your databse and config file from the “C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Clipdiary\” or “C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Clipdiary” to this folder first

start clipdiary.exe –portable

7. For better compatability, change the last line from:
start clipdiary.exe –portable
to:
start /D”%~dp0%” clipdiary.exe –portable

8. Run the .bat file. You’ll probably have to re-do/cancel the setup wizard.
9. Click on Help, About, “Enter a license key”. It’ll warn you that you’ve already got one, but that’s in the registry. You need to add it for the portable version. Paste your key from earlier into this window and click “Register it”. The program will restart - and you should have a registered portable version!

Version 3.51 is now on Giveaway of the day: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/clipdiary-3-51/

Use the key (you can find it in the registry after running activate.exe in a sandbox) on the portable version you can download from the site of the publisher
Download: http://clipdiary.com/download/clipdiary ... le_3.5.zip

Go to http://clipdiary.com/

Not tested if this app is fully portable

Thanks for the alert, Ennovy. Although non-free, Clipdiary still is my clipboard manager of choice for the sheer ease of use and lightweightness. 8)

Some findings:

Clipdiary becomes natively portable if you just rename the main executable to 'Clipdiary-portable.exe', so you can simply (Uni)Extract the installer ('setup.exe'); if you further compress the exe, I believe it will be undistinguishable from the site's portable download...

And if you want to retrieve the registration info without mucking about with the system registry, you can just open the 'Help | About Clipdiary" or press ALT+F1 (after you successfully activate it following GAOTD included instructions, no need to install it) and click on "View detail information" -- relevant info will be instantly copied to the clipboard, ready to be pasted wherever you want...

Yet some more additional info... :)
http://clipdiary.com/ wrote:http://clipdiary.com/]Clipdiary is a powerful clipboard manager, which records every piece of data that goes to the Windows clipboard, meaning that you can easily retrieve any information that was once copied to the clipboard (if Clipdiary was running at that moment).

Clipdiary homesite: http://clipdiary.com/.

A not very flattering review: http://dottech.org/136656/windows-review-clipdiary/.

EDIT: Clipdiary registration info is always saved to the computer registry even by the portable, although all other settings are saved to 'clipdiary.cfg' in program's folder -- see 'HKCU\Software\TiushkovNikolay\Clipdiary'.

BTW, GAOTD activation wrapper also saves (unneeded) settings to the registry -- check 'HKCU\Software\giveawayoftheday.com'.

Clipdiary - there is already a portable freeware version

#6 Post by MakoSoft »

Clipdiary from Tiushkov Nikolay and Softvoile Team (http://softvoile.com) is handy, well working, for many years developed clipboard manager. On 1 June 2014 appeared a portable freeware version of Clipdiary. Executable file is about 5 MB and uses sqlite3.dll. Free version of Clipdiary includes the most important features of its paid version. Application is available in many languages and has clear interface. Current version is 1.0. Author's short description is in this quotation from homepage: "Clipdiary Free is a free version of Clipdiary clipboard manager. It includes all features of Clipdiary 3.0 with all bug fixes and improvement up to 1 June 2014. Clipdiary Free, intended for home users, it's free for private, non-commercial use".

Just tested the latest ClipDiary Free for portability with PrIMo, confirming it is both portable and stealth.

Download ClipDiary Free Portable (currently v1.0) from http://clipdiary.com/clipdiary-free/dow ... n=portable.

ClipDiary Free v1.0 appears to include all features from commercial v3.5 (see changelog at http://clipdiary.com/download.php), and the screenshot above remains current.

If you have a previous ClipDiary version (e.g., the v3.51 one from GAOTD, see Ennovy post above), you can migrate to ClipDiary Free just by copying your settings (i.e., 'clipdiary.cfg') and clippings database (default is 'diary.db') over to the new portable folder...

The full version of ClipDiary is free for personal, non-commercial use- http://clipdiary.com/free-license/:
Free license for personal use
Clipdiary is free to use under the following conditions:

1. The program is used on a private computer (except for cases where a home computer is a workstation - telework, freelance work, own business)
2. The program is used on a private computer for work and your average combined income over the previous 6 months is under /month
3. The program is used by in a not-for-profit organization

If you do not meet the criteria above, you need to purchase a license to use the program after the initial 30 days. By doing so, you will support our efforts and help us make further improvements in the product.

However ClipDiary requires free registration which is generated immediately (it doesn't require e-mail).
I tested it a bit- truly portable, Unicode support, light, in short- a nice clipboard manager.

ClipDiary at Softpedia- http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-too ... iary.shtml
Portable ClipDiary at Softpedia- http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-S ... iary.shtml

Read 'Important Notice' about the free registration.

Extremely cool news -- ClipDiary Free has been my clipboard manager for ages. 8)

Some further clarification: licensing condition #2 above is undefined due to missing the earnings ceiling amount; it seems the free license is issued on condition of receiver sharing info about ClipDiary on the main social networks (but manifestly this isn't mandatory).

Registration without email? How does that work?

I'm not sure I understand the point of that. Is that just to get an IP address? See who's actually using the program, maybe?

We generally frown on registerware so I'm wondering if this falls into that realm.
