Q-Dir (File Manager)

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Re: Is anyone else getting malware warnings with Q-DIR ?

No problems for me. I'm sure it's a false positive.

What do you think it means that Q-Dir is trying to access other running programs though? If it's a false positive, why doesn't it happen with all the old versions of Q-Dir? What exactly is going on with it?

No other program I have ever used gives this message. And I use tons of freeware and payware.

I'm just confused and wary...

Is it the executable (.exe) or the ZIP folder (.zip) you're having problems with? Did you download from SoftwareOK directly? What Anti-Virus are you using? If you reported to the author about the issue without providing the following answers then I doubt they will be able to help.

Why not upload to VirusTotal to see what other Anti-Virus companies flag the program as.

Q-Dir 4.79 x64 on VirusTotal:

Q-Dir 4.79 x86 on VirusTotal:
http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/rep ... 1318768561

The problem is your anti-malware software, or your qdir.exe was affected by a virus or whatever.

Edit: @guinness - man, again?! :)

Thanks for testing, I didn't because I kind of expected the results to be 0/43!

Thanks for the replies.

I still don't know why Q-Dir is doing what is deemed a risky behavior by my anti-malware program, but I hope and guess that it's safe based upon the community concensus. I know that virus checkers don't check the behavior of a program, just scan for malicious contents. Since previous versions didn't exhibit the risky behavior, I think something has changed in a not-so-good way... in other words, the programmer decided to implement something that is frowned upon by some anti-malware.

I did some research and it's trying to do the same type of behavior that some malware does exploit also. But nevertheless, Q-Dir seems mostly OK. And also it even functions when my anti-malware sandboxes it and blocks it's risky behaviors. It was trying to do some stuff related to installing Global Hooks and accessing protected COM Interfaces of other programs.

But thanks guys for your help.

I did email the program author with an explanation of my situation, but I didn't get any reply. I can only hope that he's taken it into consideration. That is if he even read my email.

You still didn't answer 2 of my questions! We still have no idea what Anti-Virus you're using, where you downloaded it from?
It was trying to do some stuff related to installing Global Hooks and accessing protected COM Interfaces of other programs.
Which is to be expected from such an application.

Old topic update: on account of its name form, this very popular file manager has trouble being found through TPFC search forms, which has caused the comment section of the database entry to grow enormously.

In the spirit of solving that, I am hereby promoting this topic to be Q-Dir's official forum topic.
