MailStore Home

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

MailStore Home

Email Archiving and Backup with MailStore Home®
MailStore Home is our free email archiving software for all private users.

Over the years, emails can become scattered among different computers, programs and mailboxes. With MailStore Home you can bring order into this chaos by creating a single central archive for all emails.

- Internet mailboxes such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail
- Any mailboxes using POP3 or IMAP
- Microsoft Outlook 2000, XP, 2003, 2007, 2010
- Microsoft Outlook Express and Windows Mail
- Microsoft Exchange Server and Hosted Exchange
- Mozilla Thunderbird and SeaMonkey
- .EML and other email files

Website: http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home.aspx

Download the portable version (http://www.mailstore.com/download.ashx? ... e&type=zip).

Stores settings in: applicaton dir

Stealth: nope

Code: Select all

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\deepinvent\MailStore]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\deepinvent\MailStore Home]
Requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

There was a Gmail failure recently and about 150.000 users' email was deleted so doing a backup at regular intervals may be a good idea.

I've created a yaP wrapper to take care of those registry settings, I'll upload it if you need. However, I contacted the author about these keys so maybe they'll disappear in future versions.

Version 5 is out:

http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home.aspx

Still requires .net2 but comes with more portable options.

[*]MailStore Home Setup now comes with the option to install MailStore Home Portable
[*]New New User Interface: Now much cleaner, sleek and modern
[*]New Auto Configuration: Account settings are recognized automatically based on the email address and no longer have to be entered manually
[*]New Multiple archiving tasks can now be started at the same time
[*]Improved Hundreds of small enhancements and bug fixes

Leaves behind an empty "firebird" directory in Al Users Application Data.

Re: Upgrading MailStore Home Portable from v4.x to 5.x

#4 Post by Midas »

Although it's not stealth (see prior) and depends on .NET (a lesser issue in post Vista environments, since it is now part of the OS), this can be a life saver when it comes to backup and consolidate the bazaar of email accounts and messages one is liable to have to manage this days...

I just noticed that the MSH database format changed between version 4 and 5, a problem the portable version isn't able to solve; I've written and posted a small tutorial on how to solve this:

MailStore Home is at V7.1.0.7815

Changelog

http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home.aspx

Writes to the registry

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Deepinvent\MailStore\Client Settings
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Deepinvent\MailStore
And... creates a folder at user\all\firebird

Congratulations: you have found one of the differences in our quiz...

(In fact, the difference is between former screenshots -- from MailStore own site -- and my later DIY ones.)
