CoreTemp

I like this one. Just hope it's portable!

Core Temp is a compact, no fuss, small footprint program to monitor CPU temperature.

The uniqueness of it is that it shows the temperature of each individual core in a each processor

in your system! You can see in real time how the CPU temperature varies when you load your CPU.

Intel and AMD recently published detailed, public information about the "DTS" (Digital Thermal Sensor), which provides much higher accuracy and more relevant temperature reading than the standard thermal diode sensors do.

This feature is supported on all Intel Core and Core 2 series of processors as well as the whole AMD's AMD64 line of CPUs.

Core Temp also has a logging feature, allowing a user to easily record the temperature of his processor(s) over any period of time, then the data can be easily transfered into an excel datasheet for easy graphing.

Core Temp works on Windows 2000, XP and 2003 (both 32bit and 64bit versions).

It's available from ...

Saves settings to registry

#2 Post by melendz »

It's a nice little program that will be part of my software tools. It's tiny and and does what it is supposed to do. Thanks for finding it.

As far as portability is concerned, it works off a USB key. However, it is not stealthy, as it saves its settings to the registry.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Core Temp]
"ReadInt"=dword:000003e8
"LogInt"=dword:000003e8
"EnLog"=dword:00000000
"DisOHN"=dword:00000000
"Fahr"=dword:00000001
"Minimized"=dword:00000000
"ShowDTJ"=dword:00000000
"SPX"=dword:0000022c
"SPY"=dword:000000f8
"SysInit"=dword:00000001

Just to bring this up to date -

1. Home Site is now ...

Code: Select all

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
2. Latest version is V 0.96.1

3. melendz was absolutely correct.

If the Settings menu is accessed in any way (even if no changes are made) , then the settings are written to the Registry.
If you avoid the Settings menu (accept defaults) then nothing is written to the Registry.

So it is probably unacceptable to the PFC

4. Particularly useful is the realtime logging facility.

Hi,
The new version (0.99.1) seems to not use the registry anymore to store its settings. At least I didn't find any entries in the registry after testing this version.
More importantly, I found the confirmation here:

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Quote:
"Version 0.99.1 - 10th July, 2008
[...]
Change: Move all settings to the ini file out of the registry."

(bolding mine)

Thanks Andrei
Now seems a perfectly (TPFC) acceptable application.

Requires admin rights to load alsysio driver. Does it remove the driver upon exiting the application?
