Thanks for the comments. "Artist" is probably a bit of an exaggeration :)

I've put the entry sidebar back and the made numerous fixes. Perhaps Andrew will upload the htmls for you so you can click around :)

This is looking great, but we really need a new icon. It looks cool, but it doesn't really say "portable" to me. Our current "live" icon I like because boxes imply portability to me, but I'm not sure if that works for a broader audience. It might be more than a little of my own association with the site.

Of course PortableApps has an arrow icon and relies on the subtext to give an idea:

WinPenPack and Lupo both have a USB connector right there in the image:

We don't even have to use an icon that has anything to do with anything, just something that looks good and probably not bright pink.

Can you do logos tproli? Should we poll the community to create one? We could do a contest or something.

(Logos above care of this page)

Hmm.. I can see two sides to this. I see the merit of considering a new iconic image, yet have personally grown accustomed to the moving boxes (are they the current icon?), and am Okay with them. Bit of time has passed. Does it still make sense, to consider designing and incorporating a new icon in the context of the new site design work? Would things flow forward more easily, simply using the polished logo tproli made, with or without the moving boxes? Should the icon question (worthy, yet awaiting inspiration) be considered separately? What do others think? What remains outstanding, to include, test, or refine for the site design?

I won't say my logo is polished, it is only a bit sharper version of the current one (and without the boxes).

Currently I have no idea for the logo so I would happily pass it on someone else.

There's certainly nothing wrong with it, so please don't let that hold things up ... the logo is definitely something we can come back to if anyone wants to take that up. I'm sure there's a graphic artist somewhere who would enjoy having a major site like ours on their resume.

Bah, I Like the boxes, :P
of the other portable sites I've seen, they have a USB drive or similar icon for their page, I've always liked that TPFC has a unique icon of its own.

Here's a first "live" cut of tproli's design:

UN/PW: tpfc/tpfc

This is far from complete, and there are lots of things that are not working yet.

@tproli: Do you have any design in mind for the collapsible forum search results at the top when doing a database search?

Just fired up the new test site and love it, a fresh design indeed.

I noticed this small rendering issue when selecting to show the screenshot (Opera V12.02) >>

Thanks! There should be some tweaks (mostly css) but it is great to see it in action, makes a big difference.

The character problem reported by guinness is because the js file is not UTF-8, but you could remove that extra character, not a big thing.

Do you mean this on "collapsible forum search results at the top when doing a database search"?

@guinness: UTF-8 problem fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.

@tproli: Ah, sorry I missed that. Will patch that in ASAP.

I love this new design. Thank you.

The "This app rocks/sucks" link does not seem to do anything at the moment.

Because the database is an old copy taken from September 6th, so if that button did anything it would be pointless anyway, as it's completely separate from the working site.

Just a note:
if there will be no option to save user preference on how many entries to show (10, 20, 50, etc), this choice could be saved in a cookie (or session).

And another one:
Is the "Updated" tag final? I mean, as I remember only the "New" tag should be there, but maybe I'm wrong.

The server isn't hosted in the EU is it? Hopefully not.
