ShareX - screenshot, screen recorder, uploader, etc.

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

ShareX is an open-source program that lets you take screenshots, save them in your clipboard, hard disk or upload them to over 20+ different remote locations. ShareX can capture screenshots with different shapes: rounded rectangle, ellipse, triangle, diamond, polygon and also free hand. It can also upload images, text files and all other different file types. It is able to capture screenshots with transparency and shadow. The program also supports drag n drop, and clipboard upload.

Thanks -- nice to see an OSS screencap program that supports all those extras. The only other one that comes to mind is the excellent Greenshot (also dotNET), and I don't think it can do that.

Just tested this out. Two amazing pieces going on here:
  1. Right out of the box, you can take a screencap and have it posted to an online service. This is immediate, no configuration, ultra-simple. Wow.
  2. Supports a stunning number of image hosting services (20+), including simple FTP to upload right away.
Negative
  • No image editor so whatever you can change something up (maybe cover up any personal info) before you upload.
Generally speaking, many open source programs are great about interfaces; they always plug into other things by combining other freely available plugins. Not many open source programs are built with this kind of instant-on simplicity. I'm very impressed.

I was wondering why these resemble so much:
Active development has been ceased for ZScreen and ZUploader in favour of ShareX, which is built on the solid foundation of ZUploader: http://code.google.com/p/sharex/ .

That does explain a lot, but it seems some of the goodies from Zscreen (which had a lot of features) were not ported over. I guess that was in the interests of simplicity.

Exactly :) https://plus.google.com/u/0/11022536139 ... o4drdimEYq

We also do have ShareXmod which is less stricter in terms of porting ZScreen features.
So the negative point you mentioned webfork is in fact taken care of by this mod:

Unfortunately I couldn't seem to configure it the way I wanted (I don't know how to make the gmail component work) and I couldn't figure out how to export images to an editor. It also crashed on its first run on an 64bit Win7 system I tested.

mcored: Happy to work with you on improving the software if you'd like more detailed reports.

Tested this lightly after webfork mentioned it in the Greenshot thread.

Can extract with Universal Extractor.

Uncompressed filesize is 2.75 MB. Memory usage is around 27 MB RAM.
is it stealth? ;)

Was getting 400 Bad Request errors with Greenshot and came back to ShareX.

ShareX continues to work with Imgur and I'm digging the fact that as soon as the upload to Imgur is completed, the URL is already in my clipboard.

It looks like ShareXMod is the successor to ZScreen.

Also ShareXMod uses Greenshot's image editor. Will test with ShareXMod and come back with feedback.

Update: ShareXmod's uncompressed filesize is 2.5x bigger than ShareX at 7.09 MB and uses a bit more memory as well.

Might stick with ShareX when I don't need to draw anything on the image.
is it stealth? ;)

There is no need to ask anyone else to add ShareX to the database; you can do it yourself by clicking the "Add Entry" button in the top right side of the main page. We just haven't gotten around to it yet.

ZScreen is also in the database. ;)

Thank you for this great tool and for taking the time to join our forums!
