AutoHotKey_L v1.1.00.00 - May 1, 2011 is available for download: http://www.autohotkey.net/~Lexikos/AutoHotkey_L/

Now has Unicode support, 64 bit support, COM support and new features...

I think it has superseded 'AutoHotKey Basic' which was last released in September 25, 2009

They're starting to add features which AutoIt has had for many years now.

AHk_L may be superior but is it portable? There does not appear to be a zip download for it like there is for AHk Basic.

Yes, look closer http://www.autohotkey.net/~Lexikos/AutoHotkey_L/ see Downloads, binaries at the bottom of the page (64bit, 32bit unicode and ansi version)
