I normally check out the comments database once a day and remove all the obvious spam stuff, but it appears that is not frequent enough for some of you. :D

(BTW, behind the scene, the code also does some keyword-based filtering of comments, but obviously this won't prevent all spam).

So I am thinking of implementing a simple comments moderation system for ranked users. The initial idea is to have a thumbs-down icon for each comment (visible only to ranked users). Every time a ranked user clicks on the thumbs-down icon for a particular comment, a negative score is incurred for that comment (equivalent to the rank of the user who clicked on it). Once a certain score is accumulated (eg. -5), that comment is removed.

What do you guys think?

And keep a log to see who changed what! Perfect! :)

I agree that that such a system would be a good idea, but I would suggest there be a simple list of criteria for what should or should not be removed. Any community based monitoring system should have some basic rules, rather than leaving it to individual opinion alone. :)

Excellent! Maybe some users should have precedence over others with the comment system, just an idea!

Good idea :!:
But I suggest to set the score to -10, so that it needs a least two "R5er" to delete an entry.

Could you elaborate on what you mean?

For example those users which have a reputable reputation within TPFC. But I see you will base it on the Ranking system so this doesn't matter anymore.

It would be nice to be able to subscribe to comments for a specific app. That could be an rss feed or an email notification. What do you think?

It would be ideal for those who are developers and wish to keep up to date of what problems users may have with their software.
