This is the best program where similarity of a sound part is checked, not just music tags or file content (byte to byte comparision). In addition the program analyzes the artist, title, album information from the music tags contained in the audio files and compare these with the appropriate entries in other files.

DMFF Duplicate Music File Finder

With Duplicate Music Files Finder you can track your music files duplicates and delete them. The program uses advanced search techniques to detect duplicates(it searches MP3s TAGS, detects duplicates even if the file names are not the same etc). If duplicates are found you can delete the files you want: just check them and press the right mouse button. You can also play the selected files in your favourite Media Player to see if they really are duplicates.

But this is not all you can do with DMFF. The program comes with a module that can be used to quickly rename bad formated music files. Just load one folder and DMFF will detect the bad formated files and let you choose which of them to rename.

Even though DMFF is specialized in detecting duplicates of music files, it does not mean that it can be used only for these file types. You can use the CRC Match or Exact File Name match methods to detect duplicates of other file types.

Cool -- have been looking for a program that would find dupes based on criterion other than file name or file size. Double Killer gets the closest. Will check these out.

Think jean3167 is just spamming: the software mentioned by the above entry isn't freeware, portable, and or as far as I can tell any better than those already mentioned in this thread. Not cheap either: personal license starts at $50, business is $240. F--k.

It has .msi installer in it but can be nicely extract using Universal Extractor. I found in their forum that it can be run in portable mode using "/portable" switch when launching.

I tested it: /portable switch works. I only got 2 empty registry keys (about some codecs - MPEG2Demultiplexer ... something ... not important), not specific to the application itself.
To run it always in portable mode, create a file named "start_portable.bat" (or whatever) with the following content:

Download "hstart" application here (it allows you to run console apps and bat files without a console window - it hides it) and put hstart.exe in the same directory as Similarity.exe.

Yes, but the path might change (folder move, different drive letter, etc.).

One could also try m^2's lnker to make a portable .lnk file.

Portabilizer works pretty well.

Just use a relative path,something like ".\bin\Similarity.exe" for the launch target.
So long as a "bin" folder with the exe is in the root folder of the launcher
it'll work any where.

I think you can change most any thing about the launcher with ResHacker
So long as you dont remove the "created with Portabilizer" in the version info.
