Hallo,
after hours or searching i now hope to find help here.
My question is if there is a toolbar or a launch tool which starts diverent portable apps which are on a portable device (usb stick)?
I mean. that i can l run this toolbar on every computer i stick the device in without change the links.
Because i tried to put different progs in such a toolbar and when i put the usb stick in another computer the toolbar cant find the programms because the computer gives the usb stick another device key (like H:\)
I hope you can help me.
How to start apps from a toolbar on every computer HELP PLS
Re: How to start apps from a toolbar on every computer HELP
Most launchers allows for this. They usually either set some variables that you can use when configuring path (i.e. Total Commander has %COMMANDER_PATH%) or allow for relative paths i.e. ".\app.exe" would mean app.exe that's placed in the same directory as the launcher.Funky77 wrote:Hallo,

You could try Portable StartMenu (TPFC=http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1365)
Extract Portable StartMenu to a folder on the usb stick and build the menu. The launcher shows an icon in the tray and it will automatically compensate for dynamic drive letters. You can even build an autorun to start the launcher.

Or just about any of the other apps in the "Application Launchers" category on TPFC: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?sc=116&so=pKea wrote:You could try Portable StartMenu (TPFC=http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1365)
The above link will show them sorted by popularity, with PStart first, as the most popular (and my personal favorite).
thanks for your answers.
i first tried this with the launcher of stardock "ObjeckDock" I also have a "porable" version of it, but this doenst work correctly or I wasnet able to "install" it for the portable use. Is it possible to upload it here? here you can get the portable version

the problem is that the settings wont load when i stick the usb stick in another pc. Perhaps you can help me with this problem.
Another lauchner i tried was this one:
http://majorgeeks.com/download2790.html
And here i have the problem i mentioned in the first post.
The better launcher would be the stardock, because the possiblilties are much more than the second one.
Every answer is welcome!

There are 3 dock-style launchers in the database: RocketDock, Y'x Dock, and RKLauncher.
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?q=dock&m=Search
Of these three, RocketDock is the most mature (and the most similar to ObjectDock).
The problem you're running into is the use of absolute paths when you add files to Y'z Dock. After adding a file, you'll have to manually edit the dock item's properties to use relative paths. Here's an example, in case you're not familiar.
Let's say you have Y'z Dock and GreatNews on your usb drive like this:
When you manually change the path to greatnews.exe from the absolute path above (which includes the drive letter that may change), you should enter the following:
The 2 periods mean "up one directory level from the directory that contains yzdock.exe".
If you choose RocketDock, it works differently: after right-clicking on your dock entry and chooosing "Icon settings...", you just delete the drive letter and colon from the path, so that
becomes
Hope this helps!

No, you can't run several instances simultaneously, and have to close a running instance (rightclick) before starting another one. However you can create as many instances as you want.
I had used rocketdock before, and created several instances by theme (editing, networking etc), to group programs. But now I use USB-pro (search for it here) which is a more than suitable replacement with the tabs, offering categorization. The prog is still in development, though, but very promising.
Cheers
