foobar2000 version 0.9.6 beta - portable mode!

#8 Post by garbanzo » Wed Oct 29, 2008 5:14 am

from the release notes of the newest beta:
Portable mode

Installing in portable mode only extracts the installer content and creates additional files that tell foobar2000 to store any configuration data in its installation folder as well as not to alter the Windows registry. Note that it is not possible to edit file type associations with foobar2000 when using portable mode, as that would require changes in the registry.
i'm at work so i've not tried it yet, but i wanted to let you all know :)

update: works ok, but it messed up my regular install, i had to re-scan my media libaray. it will take a while to port my config and settings to the portable version, but once i do, it will be nice to be able to zip up the directory and archive it, so the next time i format my machine, it's easy to replace!

foobar2000

#10 Post by David_E. » Sat Nov 29, 2008 4:45 pm

foobar2k v0.96 came out and offers an official portable install-mode which doesn't require administrative rights.

I'm using foobar for years now and its been improving all the time, but this update really is what I waited for! Since I switched to vista it annoyed me to grand the installer rights it didn't need. Great Update!

The how to extract-section needs to be updated. It's now perfectly possible to just launch the installer and tell it to install to the destination in portable mode :-)
