AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
Re: AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
Old topic update: AkelPad v4.9.8 released 2016-07-18 (changelog at akelpad.sourceforge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2114).
Couldn't find a full changelog online, so I'm pointing to the most complete non-official one (back to v3.3.0):

Even though the last official update was in 2016, there have been trickling updates as late as September 2020:

Hopefully we'll see a new official release sometime soon. According to the dev log, biggest changes include supporting 64-bit and native portable mode!

Thanks for the news, freakzoid.
I was once an AkelPad user and may quickly return, should those changes materialize. I seem to recall AkelPad being coded straight in assembly, but those updates are long overdue.

Re: AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
I found a test version on the AkelPad forums with the version number 4.9.9 dev, last updated on July 2019. At least this is better than nothing!

Someone compiled the latest AkelPad changes (last update: June 2023) on the AkelPad forums: https://akelpad.sourceforge.net/forum/v ... b9b8#36263
Scanned with Virustotal and came up clean.

From the same source, an explanation for the lack of official updates after 2016:

As Instructor wrote (I asked him the same question), it's not the time to release a new version yet.

Yeah, I read that. I have a feeling the developer is disenchanted with releasing updates to the public. However, at least there are still updates posted onto the Sourceforge SVN.

Re: AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
After playing around with this unofficial build from SafeType (kudos!), although it takes some fidgeting with its options and settings, I must confess AkelPad still is one of the best lightweight text editors out there -- and now supporting 64-bit and all, something it didn't do when I last used it regularly...

Re: AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
From the AkelPad forums, there is a new, third-party build of AkelPad. This one is on GitHub - https://github.com/ssrlive/akelpad.
This incorporates the latest changes from the AkelPad SourceForge SVN and also uses Visual Studio 2010 to build AkelPad instead of Visual Studio 2003 - https://github.com/ssrlive/akelpad/issu ... 1374918521.

Is it worth pointing the database entry to this build, seeing that the original has not been updated in ages?
Re: AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
Since the original is still being (slowly) developed (the last commit was a week ago). I wouldn't consider the project dead, even without public builds.Andrew Lee wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 4:52 am Is it worth pointing the database entry to this build, seeing that the original has not been updated in ages?
If you must, we can make an entry for the fork or add a note in the description.

In that case, let's wait and see..
I think having this info in the forum topic for the software should be good enough for the time-being until the fork becomes more substantial.

The official dev version I posted about here has been updated. See https://akelpad.sourceforge.net/forum/v ... 6275#36275. This was posted a couple of weeks ago.

Re: AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
Just to make it all a little clearer AkelPad's ssrlive fork -- pointed to by freakzoid a couple of posts prior -- is v4.9.10, last released 2023-06-20 -- although it still shows v4.9.9 in its About dialog...
The latest official AkelPad build is still v4.9.9_dev, last released in its forums in 2023-06-28.
