PortableApps.com again

#61 Post by ashghost »

Yeah, I made a list of already-portable, TPFC-listed PortableApps back in April:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... ght=#11194

They've since added Stellarium and WinDirStat, and some of their games might already be portable. At least 20 of their 55 "official" apps are already portable, and that is indeed ridiculous to many of the people who frequent these forums.

Still, for those who don't even want to unzip a file or customize their own launcher, the above PortableApps are great. That's why they get press. That's why they're popular. They're portable applications for people who only want to double-click to install.

I realize that JkDefrag is already portable. I am simply posting this item because it was released. I leave it to the moderators/Andrew to decide if they want it in the collection or now.

portableapps version

#64 Post by webfork »

This easy-setup version is a little behind the current version ...

...but is very slick. We're currently pointing to the author website but can someone say that one is better over the other?

From what I can tell just from the screenshot, that PortableApps version is not nearly as good as JkDefragGUI, to which there is a link in the TPFC description of JKDefrag. The author of JkDefragGUI claims to have a new version coming out today, but I'll bet you could just update the JkDefrag.exe that came with the current version of JkDefragGUI.

I suppose the description could also have a link to the PortableApps version, if the mods want to include it.

MyDefrag

It is the successor of JkDefrag (but unfortunately no longer open source), completely rewritten and widely improved:

(portability not tested)

No relevant registry entries, no files outside its folder (tested in Sandboxie).

If you feel overwhelmed by the new scripting approach of MyDefrag4 (like me) you'll definitely need MyDefragGui (successor of JKDefragGUI).

Someone know why there isn't an official portable version of MyDefrag?

I have asked the authorization to distribute a portable version of it http://www.mydefrag.com/forum/index.php?topic=2142.0
I'll create a software box soon with it..

Has anyone found a problem with MYDefragGUI ...

Has anyone found a problem with MyDefragGUI
http://mydefrag.8qm.de/

MyDefragGui includes the full installer and just AFAIK extracts the needed and unneeded elements from the installer

The unneeded elements include the screen Saver.exe several language/help files etc. it weighs in at 1.97Mb Zipped according to the website.

Could someone review this Gui which includes the installer for the tracks left after a successful shutdown.

And could you also check for the tracks left when the Gui is shutdown intentionally with taskmanager before it can shut itself down.

I am also wondering if any changes made by the user are persistent from disabling some features/unwanted elements in the GuI to possibly removing those elements that are unneeded or unwanted (will those files be restored after each run?).

******************************************************************************
Edit I have been playing with this tool and I have found the sounds simply annoying.
To provide myself with a more acceptable completed notification sound I opened up a copy of DSpeech and typed in "task completed" and saved as a .wav file, I named it "sample1"
and replaced the original sample1.wav with it
