FreeFileSync
Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
Version 3.17 has a different files/folders structure.
The 32 and 64 bit versions are both extracted by default (in the "Bin" subfolder) and a launcher automatically selects the correct version on startup.
There is also a "Convert Config to v3.17" app (portable) as an upgrade helper.
So there is no need for "and choose the 'Program architecture' according to whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit system (choose 32-bit if you're not sure)" in the "How to extract" field.

Yeah, just tested. Good idea.joby_toss wrote:So there is no need for "and choose the 'Program architecture' according to whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit system (choose 32-bit if you're not sure)" in the "How to extract" field.

Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
I tried to make this converter tool work without success -- there's no included usage file. I didn't try some command-line tricks I know, but there's nothing listed on the FreeFileSync home page. At least one user has had an issue with this:joby_toss wrote:There is also a "Convert Config to v3.17" app (portable) as an upgrade helper.
Anyone want to take a crack at this?Joe Fabeetz: The latest version - 3.17 - makes it very difficult to upgrade from a previous version. If you have an older version with profiles already set, you must first download a 'converter' and run it on all of those profiles to convert them. This is no taks for an amateur since there are no instructions. User BEWARE before upgrading.
Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
I have no older profile. I deleted everything and started fresh.
Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
I just re-saved all my profiles, so I don't have any old ones either.
Can't you just drop the old version file onto the converter?

Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
I managed to get my hands on an older config file (from a backup I did a while ago), I dropped it on the converter as Hydaral suggested and it works.
Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
What FreeFileSync is missing is multiple folder synch.
For example, synch "this, that, and these other folders."

Re: FreeFileSync V5.2
Hmm, when did they start to include opencandy with this one (v5.2 now)?
Be careful during installation! Disable the "offers"!

Re: FreeFileSync V5.2
OCSetupHlp.dll was bundled together with FreeFileSync_v5.1_setup. V5.0 tested clean.joby_toss wrote:Hmm, when did they start to include opencandy with this one (v5.2 now)?
Thanks, joby_toss. I quickly searched online but could not find any reference to FreeFileSync and OpenCandy. You might well be the first one to report this.joby_toss wrote:Be careful during installation! Disable the "offers"!

I don't understand.joby_toss wrote:Hmm, when did they start to include opencandy with this one (v5.2 now)?

File FreeFileSync_v5.2_setup.exe downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/freefil ... sync/v5.2/ (MD5 : 40b1477bdfcc032aaa283099feb2b0d0) there is no "offers" during installation. (Tested again, few minutes ago)
You can also avoid installation by using Universal Extractor or 7-zip. Works great.
Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
File: FreeFileSync_v5.2_setup.exe
MD5: 40b1477bdfcc032aaa283099feb2b0d0
During installation process (portable selected):
And leftovers in Temp:
Even if you use 7-zip to manually extract the files, in "$PLUGINSDIR" folder there is the file "OCSetupHlp.dll".
I know (how) I can avoid this, I am OK with the author trying to make a livin', but the inclusion of OpenCandy crap should be public knowledge.

Does the "How to extract" should be updated ?joby_toss wrote:I know (how) I can avoid this, I am OK with the author trying to make a livin', but the inclusion of OpenCandy crap should be public knowledge.
Re: FreeFileSync V3.1
I tried the installer using the Portable option and didn't get the screen above, but OCSetupHlp.dll was present in the %TEMP% folder.
