FastStone Capture (Screen Capture)

#1 Post by Yucca »

[Moderator note: this is the primary FastStone Capture thread. View database entry]

----

The great, portable screen capture tool FastStone Capture has been updated to v. 4.0.

It is available at http://www.faststone.org/download.htm . Be sure to choose the "portable" download link.

This is one of the best programs on my USB stick! It allows scrolling captures and irregular shape captures in Firefox, Opera and IE as well as all the other standard capturing routines. No commercial package I have found offers anything more -- and this is free (for home users, but donations welcomed).

EDIT:
I added a space before the period in the sentence with the url. Now the url should work as intended.

It's because there is a superfluous full-stop (period) at the end of the link... Faststone Downloads

I've already updated the entry in the database, and that one isn't faulty. :)

Well, actually, the period is not "superfluous." It is the normal punctuation at the end of a declarative sentence.

This behavior of erroneously including the period is a well-known bug (or fluke, if you prefer) in phpBB software when one types a url at the end of a sentence without using the html code to indicate that it is a url. phpBB is not smart enough to know that a url virtually never ends in a period. This correction would be easy to program to remove trailing periods in urls in phpBB, but alas that hasn't happenend.

Anyway, you should always remove the period at the end of a url that is typed at the end of a sentence without html code under phpBB. When I remember, I add a space before the period when I type a url at the end of a sentence -- which is incorrect punctuation but avoids the problem.

BTW, I've edited the original post on this to correct the problem by adding a space after the url and before the period.

Database updated. Thanks!

I have been wondering over the past few days when the website is going to be back again. This is good news!

I noticed these yesterday but didn't bother updating because the changes were quite minimal. I guess I'll just update like mad now. ;)

Download correct version

Make sure to use the portable version of course, otherwise you primarily run into thumbnail database creation woes on the PC you are using. Or you can use the "Create Portable Application" function. ;-)
