Updated! Just to let you know you can edit entries yourself. If you select edit next to the app then you can update from there. Check http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... =12&t=5601 for details.

eToolz 4.1.0.0

#23 Post by lastaltoid »

Should this program be updated or removed. The new version on etoolz homepage is version 4.1.0.0, but it also requires NET 2.0 (that makes it non-portable , right?).

Unfortunately no, lastaltoid.
Nowadays TPFC has abondoned such criteria with the assumption everyone should be running
that garbage on their system anyway since .Net is installed by default on newer OSes

Such apps simply get a footnote in the dependencies box when updated.

still not updated in the TPFC entry for some reason. there is quite a bit new in their changelog from version 4.0 but its in German :(

i like the .NET portable apps but maybe some type of selector switch could be added to the top of the screen for true portable only/NET/JAVA etc.

DotNET framework relevant comment by zorro posted to the database (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1199#comment28680):
  • zorro wrote:It should be mentioned, that eToolz requires [Dot]NET[ v]3.5 -- I think since version 3. It does NOT run on Windows 8 and higher with the integrated NET 4+, if the optional NET3.5-package is not installed!
@webfork: as the present is the official forum topic for eToolz, please remove version info from OP. Thank. :)

Can someone respond to zorro's entry post that this requires some version of dotNET. Is that accurate?

Same as the help file, Corflags reports (eToolz doesn't have to be running) that .Net v2.0 or higher is needed:

Same thing is reported by ProcessExplorer (eToolz must be running to check this):

And so says the log file left behind by eToolz:

Note: my win 10 came with every .net version installed, so eToolz works fine on my system.

Note2: .net 4.0 (and higher) is not based on .net 2.0, as opposed to .net 3.5 (which includes .net 2.0), so I think we should modify the database entry requirements field accordingly (also adding the Not stealth status).

joby_toss findings would explain the incompatibility with Windows 8 reported by zorro, IMHO, as eToolz has confirmedly been dependent on DotNET v2.0 since the beginning... :|
