Problematic software sources

#1 Post by webfork »

Inspired by Midas' freeware orphanage, I present a list of software developers who have had issues and a brief (!) description of the issue.

NOTE:
  • A listing here does not represent a ban. The primary goal here is to have a quick reference for software sources that should get additional time and consideration before adding.
  • Please don't post individual programs -- these should be groups of apps or software teams.
The List
  • SecurityXploded - switched to encrypted, zip downloads
  • Van Loo - not portable, ever-changing names
  • Liberkey - used encrypted config files
  • Leelu Soft - used to include adware
  • Thumbapps - were questions on source code, redistribution
  • Icecream - not portable, my experience with their tools hasn't been positive
  • 12Bytes - license issues
Please reply if I missed one.
