Mastodon - micro-blogging
Re: Mastodon
It's the first interesting thing I've seen in social networking in years. I recall talk about some open, distributed alternative to Facebook but of course that never came to be, given that no distributed network wants to host 200 of your mom's vacation photos. Meanwhile millions of short text bits of text are pretty easy to host.
The only problem is that if the first adopters are a specific group, the program will become known as "<INSERT NAME> Twitter". So Christian Twitter or SciFi Twitter or worse. Still, that might just be what a network like that has to go through initially.

Re: Mastodon
Been hearing quite a bit about Mastodon lately, mainly from Linux circles... limited appeal for me, though, as I never Twitter'd.
