Unencryp problem

#1 Post by lopalopa »

Hi guys,

I need a help from the forumer. I'm using Kakasoft folder Protector to protect my folder. Previously everything is ok with this software Here the cronology of what had happen to me:-

- I'm protected my confidential folder at my office, at this everything fine.
- I tried to unproted the folder at my home pc, but i'm forgot that my pc doesn't have kakasoft protection.exe file. When the application request a password for this folder, i just enter the password and the folder has been unlock succesfully.
-Unfortunately, there was nothing inside the folder, so i just clcik back the kakasoft tray and hit the cancel protect button.

I need your help, is there any oppurtunity the retrieve back my 10 GB data :(

Thanks

Look at http://portablefreeware.com/forums/view ... 5&start=32

IMHO, "Kakasoft folder Protector" could be better thought out. Also, it depends on Windows Explorer quirks/bugs. Other shells/directory listers will reveal your hidden folder. Use Truecrypt or equivalent for real security.

What version of LockDir were you using?

4.6, 4.7 or 5.0? Or some other version?

Create a BAT file (UnLockDir.bat for example) and put the following inside:

Code: Select all

@echo off
attrib -s -h desktop.ini
del desktop.ini
attrib -s -h printers
attrib -s -h thumbs.db
attrib -s -h thumbs.dn
cd printers
cd thumbs.db
cd thumbs.dn
attrib -s -h desktop.ini
del desktop.ini
attrib -s -h sys~1
attrib -s -h sys___~1
attrib -s -h com1~1.{d3
cd sys~1
cd sys___~1
cd com1~1.{d3
attrib -s -h system.db
del system.db
attrib -s -h system~1
attrib -s -h system
attrib -s -h aad9~1
attrib -s -h __~1
cd system~1
cd system
cd aad9~1
cd __~1
attrib -s -h dir.fod
del dir.fod
attrib -s -h file.fod
del file.fod
attrib -s -h ps.fod
del ps.fod
rename thumbs~1.{d3 unhidden
rename lastf unhidden
move unhidden ..\..\..\
cd ..
rmdir system~1
rmdir system
rmdir aad9~1
rmdir __~1
cd ..
rmdir sys~1
rmdir sys___~1
rmdir com1~1.{d3
cd ..
rmdir printers
rmdir thumbs.db
rmdir thumbs.dn
attrib -s %~dps0
exit
This was prepared based on Redllar's advice from the readme that came with his HideDir program.

Put UnLockDir.bat in the folder that was ''locked'' and run it and ''hopefully'' a folder named ''unhidden'' will show up.

It should work for Redllar's HideDir program and versions 4.6, 4.7 and 5.0 of LockDir.

Help Needed on Lockdir 5.1.0.0

#5 Post by Ravi »

Hi All,

I have been using lockdir for quite a while but recently i forgot the password to one of the folders, by using queue's batch file i was able to extract the files, but now the locked folder still cannot be deleted or cut-pasted.
Just out of curiosity tried quite a few things but nothing works, Can anyone guide me as to how i can delete the same?
Further the unlockdir.bat file actually extracts the data from locked folder or just copies it, i.e does the locked folder still has the data stored in it?

It moves the files out from the ''locked'' subfolders; the locked subfolders (if they aren't deleted by the script) are left empty.

I need some clarification on your problem: when you say the ''locked folder still cannot be deleted or cut-pasted'' do you mean the folder you selected to lock, or the thumbs.dn subfolder inside the locked folder?

Now, with LockDir 5.1, if you use ''Security Level: Strength: High'' the files get mildly encrypted (it looks like fixed byte shifting). This means if you recover the files with my batch script they'll be unusable.

Mr. Queue,

I am currently using the lastest LockDir, and it seems you BAT file method isn't working.

I can't open it not because I forgot the password, but there seems to a bug/error with the latest version.

Whenver I try entering the password, a pop-up shows up saying:
"An error occurred when trying to unprotect the folder. Please try again later!"
instead of the usual
"Invalid password." pop-up

Is there any way for me to recover the files in the locked folder??

Download Total Commander.
Download this plugin.
Follow the instructions to install and start using.
Browse to the locked dir, enter it and take whatever you want.
It works with default "encryption" level.
With "high" you can restore the files, but at the beginning they are encrypted, which corrupts most files to be totally unreadable.
EDIT:
With highest you can do nothing.

Now that I have copied the files, how do I recover the 8+GB space that the locked folder consumed.
I couldn't find the locked folder anymore, even with using Total Commander.
But the 8+GB of space is taken. Weird.
